First, i will take that the rope is in the front. If so, you will need to remove trimmer shaft, throttle assembly, so you will be able to remove starter housing.

Hopefully the website will translate.
Remove throttle handle from shaft trying to keep all parts in one side and once removed place together and install a couple of screws, remove shaft from part no 42 by loosening screw no. 43, item 45 has either a allen head or star head screw in it will probably loosen ccw. Remove item 45, remove item 46 should be arrow to show which way to turn you will need to use copper or brass pin to hit with hammer to remove to prevent damage. Now remove item no. 41 and you are at the starter cord. You will now have to remove spool no 51 and notice how rope is wound if possible, remove old rope install new rope place spool back in place to where it catches spring as it should now wind in same direction as rope wound about 5 turns hold and run rope through eyelet of starter housing. Now install keeper 52 with screw 53.

How to replace starter rope on homelite 26b blower

The starter rope is buried in the bottom of the unit. So you have to split the upper and lower halves of the blower to get to the starter pulley. The rewind spring sits right beneath the rope pulley so you have to be careful not to pull out the spring or it will be next to impossible to put back in! I would suggest pulling a video from an online parts source or youtube for details.

Be safe and good luck!

Pull cord will not rewind

  • 1

Turn the Homelite chainsaw so that the bar and chain are laying flat and the starter cover is facing up. Loosen the four starter cover screws by unscrewing them counterclockwise with the screwdriver.

  • 2

Take the starter cover off of the engine. Turn the starter cover over to work on the pull starter. Pull the rope out about 6 to 8 inches.

  • 3

Twist a loop into the end of the rope. Insert the intersection of the two ropes into the notch on the upper flange of the pulley. Rotate the loop back and forth until you notice the recoil spring has disengaged. Unwind the rope from the pulley. Cut off any old rope if you need to replace it with a new rope.

  • 4

Unscrew the screw holding the pulley to the starter cover using the screwdriver. Take the pulley off the starter cover. Turn the pulley over and remove the recoil spring cassette from inside the pulley.

  • 5

Inspect the spring inside the cassette to see if it is damaged or overstretched. Replace the recoil spring cassette if it is broken. Lubricate the post on the starter cover using about a dime-sized amount of engine grease.

  • 6

Put the recoil spring cassette back into the pulley. Set the pulley onto the starter cover and tighten the screw down with the screwdriver. Wind the starter rope back around the pulley in a clockwise direction.

  • 7

Leave about 6 to 8 inches of rope unwound. Form another loop at the end and insert the loop into the notch on the pulley. Rotate the loop back and forth until you notice the tension is set on the recoil spring.

  • 8

Remove the loop and place the starter cover back over the engine. Pull the rope out 6 inches and tighten the starter cover's screws using the screwdriver. Release the rope and it should automatically retract

Homelite 25cc model UT20002A. How to repalce starter string?

Remove the shaft assembly at the motor, there should be one or two screws on the boom clamp. Remove the four screws holding the starter housing on. Inside the front of the housing is an air baffle you don't have to remove and the starter pulley. Remove it carefully, you don't want the spring to come out of its container. Remove any vestiges of the old starter rope and install the new one with no more than three or four windings depending on the thickness of the rope you bought. Install the pulley in the housing with the rope through the slot in the pulley so you can wind it a couple times to catch the spring and start the tension. It should be tight enough to just pull the string back into the housing. Feed the rope through the hole in the housing then through the t-handle and tie a knot so it won't pull back through the handle. Put the housing on the motor, no screws yet, and pull the rope out to make sure nothing is binding and the rope retracts fully into the housing. If it's too tight use the slot in the pulley to take one winding out. If the t-handle dangles, add a turn to the pulley. Reassemble housing and boom and you're ready to go.
