Try F9 during boot.. I doubt you repartitioned that small partition when you reformatted the main partition of the drive. Then again, the F9 function might not work anymore, even though the partition is still intact.. From Asus Support:
Using the Recovery Partition(on selected models)
1. Press < F9 > during bootup.
2. Press [Enter] to select Windows Setup [EMS Enabled].
3. Select the language you want to recover and click Next.
4. Read the ASUS Preload Wizard messages and click Next.
5. Select a partition option and click Next. Partition options:
Recover Windows to first partition only.
This option deletes only the first partition and allows you to keep other partitions, and to create a new system partition as drive "C".
Recover Windows to entire HD.
This option deletes all partitions from your hard disk drive and creates a new system partition as drive "C".
Recover Windows to entire HD with two partitions.
This option deletes all partitions from your hard drive and creates two new partitions "C" (25%) and "D" (75%).
6. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the recovery process.
I do not see Windows Setup as an option in the F9.
Yes, I was afraid the reformat might have removed that feature. Since you have Windows 7 and most likely, a sticker with a working number, you can download the proper Windows 7 install, burn it to a CD, then reinstall. http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official...
Oh? This seems interesting. When downloading an iso, is there a way you can check what your laptop's version of Windows 7 is? I can't remember what kind mine was. If there isn't a way to find it, I'll just start from the lowest version.
Look at the sticker on the laptop.. it should mention the version.
Sorry for delay in timing. So once I burned the disc and plugged it into my laptop, I hit install now on the desktop of Ubuntu, and it tells me that it was unable to create a required installation folder. What should I do?
You need to restart the computer and press F10 or whatever key lets you get to the boot menu. Select the CD-ROM to boot from. You can also press F8 repeatedly to get to the BIOS Setup screen and change the boot order to look for the CD-ROM first. Save the changes and restart again. It should boot to the CD and install Windows 7. You can't install it from within another OS.
Thanks!

i can tell you how to fix this but it would require a $80 investment on your part. There is an excellent program called Spinrite 8.0 . It comes from Gibson research company. It comes with FreeDos installed for just these kind of problems. go to your BIOS and set it to load from cd. insert the disk and reboot. Use option 5 to repair your HDD. Now this can take a few hours or a few days depending on how damaged your HDD is. But I have fixed countless pc's and laptops with the same problem. if you don't want to make the investment use a torrent site and DL it for free (although this does violate copyrite) it will save you the $80.

Sounds like a job for a repair shop that can attach an external drive to it and reload the operating system.
SOURCE: how do i restore my laptop to factory image
It depends on which model of laptop you have, but with most, you press (or hold down) the F11 button as soon as you turn the laptop on.
Remember that usually, when you do a restoration like this, you will LOSE all files already on the laptop :( so make sure you have made some kind of back-up of anything you want to keep before starting the recovery process.
If you cannot do this yourself, you may have to ask a computer store to make a copy of your files for you. Or you could buy an external hard drive box, and put your laptop drive into it, then attach that to a friends computer, and copy your files off it before the restoration is started.
The awkward bit is knowing where your files are actually kept if you're trying to save them like this, but most are in your DOCUMENTS folder.
