SOURCE: Questions about replacing ethernet card on my Dell desktop

Any ethernet card will work fine. Just be sure it's the fit's the correct slot. You probably have a "white" slot which is a pci slot. If it's a longer "black" slot then it's isa. More than likely it came from a pci slot. Before you buy one, confirm the type of slot. In additon, before installing it go to control panel and system settings, hardware, device manager and remove the old one by right clicking it and select delete or remove. Shut down the computer follow instructions for new card.
Probably will have to install the drivers first then shut down and install the new card. Good Luck.

SOURCE: hi i have a dell

Turn power off and remove the power cord from the rear of the pc. Remove the side cover of the pc. Use a phillips head screw driver and remove the screw holding the NIC card in place on the back of the case. Use two hands and gently pull the old card out. You may have to rock itleft and right to get it to slide out of the pci slot. Then place the new card into the slot that the old card was removed from. Replace the screw and power up the pc before closing the side up and test the connectivity. New hardware will be found and drivers will be installed. Update drivers if all go OK. Then replace the side cover and don't forget the screws.

I have a dell 2400 desktop computer. I recently got FIOS and they hooked my wife's computer to their router with an ethernet cable. Can I also hook my dell up the same way?

Depends on the hardware. Is it a router or modem? Does is have extra ports in the back,

Router with extra ports, just connect new device with wire or even wireless if it has wireless.

Modem, most likey you have to buy a router.

Cant get on the internet

The longer the cable, the slower the connection.

It should work with the cable as it is not "too" long.

I would try turning the modem and router off for one minute and then turning back on.

Dell Dimension 4700C Desktop PC, internet issue.

Try and test the computer and modem connection by hooking it up directly by an ethernet cable..

If the internet connection stays solid when cabled up..

Then try either changing or removing the wep or wpa encryption on your wireless network, and seeing if that allows the computer to stay connected.

Also try disabling the firewall on your computer, and also on your modem.

Can't log onto internet or my mail , then there was the term something isn't plugged in.

Hi,
Check that the ethernet cable is plugged in to the back of the computer. Also check that the cable is connected to the modem and that the modem is switched on.

Dell dimension 2400, wireless internet

Hi Whitney,

I was able to locate manual and a troubleshooting guide.
  1. Manual
  2. Troubleshooting Guide
Summary: Your modem only supports 802.11b standard, which limits the throughput to max. 11Mbps (compare to 802.11g = 54Mbps, 802.11n = 108 Mbps). In other words: your connection is only about 10% of the speed compared to a wired connection via Ethernet cable (100 Mbps). So - if you can - you should try to use a wired instead of a wireless connection, but you have to decide what makes is more important to you: having no cable and you can be away from the modem or the connection speed.

This also means - and that is in regards to APremkumar's solution - that you can skip all 802.11n adapters (this would just be a waste of money). Since you will not find an adapter that only connects to a class b network, look for something like "802.11b/g".
An example page is here. You can choose between an internal (PCI card) or external (USB adapter) solution. Both are ok and the decision depends on the availablity of a free USB port on your Dell and your comfort of opening the computer case or not. (You can always come back here and ask for help;-)

If you have any more questions, please let me know - I'm happy to help!

Modem bad on Dell Dimension 2400, Can it be replaced?

Ethernet port or dial up modem?

If it's the built in ethernet port, all you need to do is purchase a PCI ethernet card, disable the one that's built in in the device manager and you're good to go.

Thanks and please take a moment to give this solution a rating of fixya.

Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop - Can't connect to internet

The NIC (network interface card) is integrated into the motherboard of the 2400 computer. Most likely that circuit is bad. To fix it you’ll have to replace the motherboard or purchase a NIC card and install it into one of the PCI slots on the motherboard.

Integrated Ethernet Port Fried/Trying to Reformat

Try going into the BIOS when the computer starts up (F12 at the Dell Screen I think) and disable the onboard ethernet and see if that helps.
