I put new batteries in my MD700 phones, and they will not hold a charge. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.
I have four MD700 series phones and they all will not hold charges. I have tried several different brand batteries. Also the displays are going bad. I wish these were repairable. I paid quite a bit for this system.

** Extend the life of your phone - Motorola 5.8Ghz - MD700 series ** PROBLEM: We got tired of buying so many of the replacement/rechargable batteries for our Motorola 5.8Ghz phone. So I started labeling the replacement batteries by taking a permanent ink pen (aka. 'sharpie pen') and writing the date of install directly onto the battery. I noticed that I was buying replacement batteries after just a few months.
SOLUTION & EXPECTED OUTCOME: After some searching online, I discovered that you can purchase stronger batteries. We did this and have extended the from months to years. Currently we're still running on batteries that were installed in January, 2008. That's almost two years on the same battery.
We purchased our replacement 3.6V2000mAh batteries from "SmartBatts" - if you need more info, or encounter any difficulty locating the replacement batteries, then reply back to this post and I'll help!
Remove battery, clean contacts between battery and phone, also be sure to use an original Motorola charger instead of one of those "universal" type chargers.Hope this helps!
try the old battery if you still have it then see if it holds a slight bit more once charged. If it does then go back to the seller of the new battery for a replacement.
i took phone back,& exchanged for another, but need my time put on new phone,&would like to use my phone #, from cellular south. 228-861-1114,& need to complete instalation of new phone.
your Phones battery could be potentially Leaking, and it may not be able to hold a charge anymore after how you have described the symptoms. Batteries that can no longer hold their charge expel all of the energy they would normally use to power the phone, and this generally causes excess heat around the battery compartment,
i would suggest purchasing a new battery, preferrably one created by Motorolla Specifically for your phone, when you have the battery, keep the phone on charge for a long time to ensure the battery holds its maximum charge !
The problem is probably the AC adapter. If you have a voltmeter you can see what voltage is on the adapter output plug going to the base unit. Unplug the small plug from the base unit and measure. Since the batteries are 3.6 v, the power adapter plug needs to be something greater. Maybe 4.5 v. It should say on the AC adapter what it puts out (volts and max current). Usually the center is negative and the outside barrel of the plug is positive. Put the volt meter to 5v DC and put the black lead in the plug center and the red lead to the outside barrel of the small plug. If you measure a negative voltage, switch the leads. Make sure the Volt meter is not in current mode or you will be shorting the adapter at its output plug. If you get a reading larger the 4 volts then the problem is probably inside the base. There should be some circuitry to minimize charging current to the battery,.
