I am helping a friend with his books/statements, and we bought a second fax, one for his house and moved the panasonic to mine. I think I have all the settings right, but it won't let me make long distance faxes -- asks for a customer access code, and my friend doesn't have a clue. Can you help? He doesn't know where the manual is.

You need the install disc, delete the printer from the hard drive and reinstall clicking on English version, Or click start ,printer and devices, right click on printer image, click trouble shooter, you may be able to change it there if you can under stand text.
