Hi. The part that connects the door hinges of my dishwasher to the springs that make it open slowly (i.e. without crashing to the floor!) have broken. I am sourcing the parts to fix it, but looking inside the side panel I'm not sure where to reattach the springs - there doesn't seem to be any logical place for the top end of the spring to hook on to. Is there a diagram available to show me how the spring mechanism sits?
Thanks for your help.
First of all, it's probably not the door spring, but the hinge cable that's broken. It's essentially a rope with plastic connectors that hook the spring to the hinge. Go ahead and order two new hinges and two hinge cables and replace them all while you're at it. You'll have to pull the dishwasher out by removing the two upper screws in the counter, and the two lower screws in the kickplate. If yours is like mine, it'll also be necessary to shorten the legs to scoot it out. Then, remove the side panels by taking the screws out of the front and back sides - don't miss the one at the bottom. About 2/3 up the front edge, there's a little metal catch that has a slot in it. Hook the top of your spring into that, and hook the lower end into one end of the hinge cable (rope). Loop the rope through the pulley and hook the other end on the hinge.
I have the same problem. Could you please suggest me how you have fixed.
Thanks in advance
Replace the broken cords. Buy 2 60cm (24inch) pieces of 4mm (5/32 inches) nylon braid. Tie a knot in each end and attach one end to the plastic lug that attaches to the hinge, wrap around the pulley and attach the other end to the spring. If one cord s broken you can use the other one to get the correct length then replace them both.
