Threading a Huskylock 4600, threads remain too loose making loops on underside

Threading succeeds and tension seems fine but then loops formed are far too loose, finally tangles and breaks

SOURCE: bobbin thread bunches up creating a tangled mess under the plate

This could either be due to the bobbin being wound too loosely, or the tension on the top thread is too loose. This just happened to me the other day, and I thought it was the bobbin thread, but then I put another bobbin in with a different color than the top thread (this is a huge help in diagnosing thread issues), and I was surprised to find that it was actually the top thread that was a big loopy mess on the underside of the fabric. I fixed it by tightening the tension on the top thread (quite a bit), and everything was fine.

SOURCE: Viking Lily - free motion quilting - thread loops on underside.

I need more info.
>Where is your presser fooot pressure set(1-9) it should be around 4?
>How fast are you free motioning (faster is better? from 1-10 10 being full speed.
>Is your bobbin threaded correctly (I need to cover the basics.)?
>Never never use a needle smaller than a 90/14 for free motion (I know everyone's an expert...but trust me)
After all this, it's OK to tighten your tension up on top a little when free motioning and getting eyelashes/spider webs on bottom. around 6 should do it though.

SOURCE: MegaQuilter Tension

Try at least 2 new needles first (HLX5, preferably Schmetz). If same, look for any rough edges on the needle plate and feed dog cover.
Beyond that, this does not sound like you are doing anything wrong. You should take your machine in for adjustment by an authorized technician. You should have about 1/2 to 1 full turn of the upper tension knob between too loose/ugly on back and too tight/breaking on the top.

SOURCE: The bobbin thread on my Viking Designer 1 is too tight

In most cases, this is caused by loose threads and fluff being in the upper tension unit rather than a problem with the bobbin. There is a screw on the bobbin case that losens and tightens the resistence. However, it can easily come out and then you have a mess.

Try this to check the bobbin thread tension -
Take the bobbin case holder out of the machine. Use a bobbin that is about half full and use standard 50 wt sewing thread.
Take your needle plate (the metal plate over the feed dogs that has markings showing stitch width under the presser foot).
Thread the bobbin thread in the bobbin case, holding the case so that the thread is through the tension spring as though it is in the machine, tied the end of the tread to the needle plate and have it hang below the the bobbin case.
If the needle plate immediately drops to the floor, unwinding the bobbin, the bobbin tension is too loose. If you jiggle the bobbin case slightly up and down and the needle plate moves slightly down, it is just right. If it does not move at all it is too tight. The resistence should be 14g which is the weight of the needle plate.

The upper tension unit, look straight down from the tension unit and you should see some metal disks which the upper thread rides through when threaded. Take your small cleaning brush and brush out any loose threads/fluff there. Look down the left side of the tension unit to make sure there is none hiding.

When you tighten the upper tension unit by pushing the tension buttons on the screen, do you hear the tension disks tightening? If not, it may be the pc board or the tension unit itself that will have to be replaced.

Otherwise, you might want to take it to an authorized husqvarna viking dealer for service. You can locate a dealer near you by visiting the husqvarna viking website and clicking on the Dealer link on the left-hand side of the page - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com

Good luck

My sewing machine is lemeiux 7000 . My thread is breaking and Seam from the lower side is very loose .what could be the reason

It is a tension problem, check your needle to make sure it does not have a burr this will cause thread to break.
if the stitching is loose on the underside you have to figure out if it is the top thread going to the underside and making loops of thread, your tension is too loose so tighten ever so slightly and sew a few stitches till it is even, if it is the bobbin thread that is bunching up try re threading it and make sure you are using the same thread on both bobbin and top, some will not work together. hope this helps good luck

Pfaff Creative 2 loops on underside of fabric

Although there could be several reasons, this is generally called bird nesting or thread nesting. It is usually a result of loose upper tension, mis-threading, or possibly a needle/thread/fabric incompatibility.

#1--when you thread, make sure you ALWAYS raise the presser foot so the thread seats in the tension disk. And, be sure to change the needle often...

Needle stitch fine. Bobbin stitch loops.

First, try a brand new needle.

Second, consider using a better quality thread. By all means, AVOID old or bargain bin threads. Coats & Clark used to be a standard, but thread quality has improved over the past few years, so you may want to check out other brands like Aurafil, Superior, Isacord, etc. Also, cotton wrapped polyester thread releases thread lint that contributes to build-up of gunk in the machine. Some sewists have noted that they experience more sewing issues when using C&C threads. However, some machines will do better with certain thread brands than others, so some experimentation may be beneficial.

Third, check the stitch on your sample again. Generally, when thread loops appear on the underside of the fabric, it is the upper thread that is the problem. If loopy threads appear on the top of the fabric, it is the bobbin thread that is the issue. You can even use a different color in the top to help distinguish which thread is the problem.

Fourth, when threading the upper thread, Always Raise the Presser Foot during the threading process so the tension disk is released and the thread can seat properly. "Bird nesting" occurs when the thread is not seated in the tension disk.

Fifth, when the upper thread appears on the underside of the fabric, the upper thread tension is too loose. If the bobbin thread appears on the top of the fabric, the tension thread is too tight (or the bobbin thread is loose). Start out with the upper tension set at the midway point and tweak it from that point. The tension is ideal when both upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

Also, remember that tension is not static--a tension setting for chiffon will most likely not work on cotton or denim. Get comfortable adjusting the tension to suit the project you are sewing.

When sewing looks fine on top but on the reverse side of fabric it is bunched up loops and not really stiched

so looping on underside indicates top thread is not in tension, you need to recheck your threading from the thread spool, through the various thread eyes, the thread take up lever, the tension discs and then to the needle. It sounds like your thread has not gone into the tension discs fully. It is important to always thread up with the presser foot raised as this opens up the tension discs too so the thread can be laid in fully.

Hi, What steps do I need to take to correct loops on the underside of the fabric. I have changed the needle, re-threaded the machine, switched the bobbin

Looping on the underside is usually your top thread coming through as its not under tension correctly. So rethread the top of the machine carefully, checking your threading diagram in the manual and checking the thread is going between the tension discs carefully.

You also should clean between the tension discs regularly as thread sheds dye particles and fine fibres and this will build up with time. Turn tension dial to zero, then carefully slide in the selvage edge of a piece of waste cotton and slide it back and forwards between the discs carefully to remove any buildup.

Now turn tension dial back to the medium number, usually 4 or 5 is the recommended setting, and rethread top and bottom as per your manual threading diagram, and try again.

There is good general machine maintenance and threading information at www.sewing.about.com, however if the above fails to improve the situation, then perhaps the top tension device has failed and needs replacing.

Loopy thread during stitching

if loops appear on underside of fabric, make sure machine is threaded correctly (check instruction manual for threading). when presser foot is resting on feed dogs, needle thread should be quite tight when pulled through needle (needle should bend a little). if thread does not feel tight, check threading again and ensure thread is between tension discs (presser foot should be up for threading and then down to check tension). if threading is good and tension seting is at 5 but still not tight enough check no htread is caught in tension assembly. if tension assembly is clear try tightening needle thread tension to 6,7 or 8 and see if that helps.

if the above is correct check for damage to the needle hole in the needle plate and polish with fine emery tape if necessary.

if you still have trouble best see a technician for possible repair to bobbin case or hook/shuttle mechanism which you may damage trying to fix yourself.
