Door won't latch

It appears the door handle isn't releasing properly so the door won't latch. Nothing appears to be blocking the mechanisms, though.

SOURCE: Detergent dispenser will not stay shut so the soap

Opening the door did not affect the latch on the dispenser. The catch does wear out and can be replaced. This involves disassembling the door and a small jigsaw puzzle of springs and levers. If you are attempting I would advise taking pictures to refer to before taking apart.

SOURCE: kenmore dishwasher latch malfunction

if you just bought it should be under warranty. call for service. if not under warranty replace the latch assembly. you can also remove the console that holds the latch and see if there is an obvious reason for the binding.

Door latch stuck on volvo c70

It sounds like the actuators (usually stiff wires) from the door handles and locking knob are OK, which means the latching mechanism itself is probably jammed or broken.

You'll need to remove the upholstered panel covering the inside of the door (search online for "how to remove a door panel") and investigate, pulling on various rods or cables to get the latch to release. You may have to temporarily remove part of a plastic water shield under the door panel to gain access.

If you can get the latch to release, unbolt it from the door (usually from its side), spray every part of the mechanism that you can access with a light lubricant like WD-40, and see if that helps. Try operating the latch manually by pushing with a screwdriver to see what happens. Look for any broken or jammed components or connectors.

If it still doesn't work, but all the related handles and knobs appear to be connected and moving properly, then the latching mechanism itself is probably at fault. Removing it is usually a matter of disconnecting all the control wires or cables, but take notes on how they connect so you can re-assemble everything). New latches are available from the manufacturer, or you can probably find a used one online. These are normally very reliable items, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy a used one.

The door on my Hotpoint Washing Machine WT741 won't open even though the programme has ended. We've tried running the programme again and pumping out but still the door won't open.

The door latch may have broken. You can sometimes open the door from the inside. You will know the door latch is broken if the door handle is floppy. If the door handle is not floppy - then the issue is probably with the door interlock. This is the electronic part that prevents the door from being opened during and after the wash has finished.
Either way - you'll need to get the door open.
To do this, unplug the washing machine from the mains and then move it out from where it is. Tip the washing machine to a 45 degree angle. Don't tip it over 45 degrees as you may break internal parts.
You need two people to do this - one person hold the machine at 45 degrees angle, whilst the other person puts their hand up into the machine - you should be able to feel the door catch mechanism and depending on the model, open the door that way. Sometimes the manufacturer has helpfully put a manual release inside - and sometimes they don't.
If you aren't able to open the door using that method. Get a length of strong string and poke the middle section of the string into the gap between the washer door and the machine body - to the right of the door handle. Use a flat headed screw drive to push the string into the gap, all the way around the door, so that you end up with the two ends of the string on the left hand side of the door. Now have someone put the ends of the string whilst the other person pulls the door handle. If the string is pushed in far enough it will release the door latch and the door will open. It takes a bit of persistence to get it right.
Once you have the door opened you can usually replace either the interlock mechanism or the door latch itself. Parts are easily available online from sites like espares and yourspares.

Toyota door lock

Hi John, If the latching mechanism is in the locked position, does it open when either of the handles are pulled? If it is not opening you may need clean and service the linkages and the latching mechanism or replace the latch. The locking mechanism inside the latch is is an off center sort of horse shoe shape. If it is closed you will see a bar which will be in an almost vertical position, and it should release when either of the door handles is operated. If it is failing to lock, (which I am suspecting), the latch will be at an angle of about fifty degrees. If that is the case, using a Philips (star screw driver) push the latch back to find out if it is latching. If it does, use either of the handles to release it again. If it fails to hold in the closed position, the linkages from the release handles may be fouled, damaged or disconnected. If everything is correct in those areas, the latch may need replacement. Check that first, let me know how you get on and if we need to go further and carry out a replacement, which will mean removing the door panel, and the mechanism let me know so we can go through it together. Regards John

Door latch

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Open Lever If the microwave door won't open the open lever might be broken. This part can be replaced separately.

Door Spring If the microwave door won't open the door spring may have broken. The door spring is located inside the door and keeps downward pressure on the door hook.

Door Latch If the microwave door won't open the door latch might be broken. The door latch is inside the microwave. The door hook, which is part of the door, engages with the latch to keep the door closed during operation. If the door latch or actuator breaks the door may not open.

Door Hook If the microwave door won't open the door hook might not be releasing properly. The door hook is installed inside the door and normally releases when the door is opened. The hook is made of plastic and will break over time. When this happens it will need to be replaced, it can't be repaired.

Button Spring If the microwave door won't open the button spring might be broken internally. The button spring can be replaced.
Button If the microwave door won't open the button might be broken internally. The button can be replaced.

Handle Actuator If the microwave door won't open the handle actuator might be broken. This is a plastic part which can become brittle over time. This part is connected between the door button and the door latch assembly.

I need a diagram of the locking mechanism in my 2001 nissan sentra so that i can use a slim jim to unlock the passenger side door.

I don't have a diagram of the door but if you slip the slim Jim in over the top of the outside door handle it should catch on the latch bar. If you are doing this because the door won't open from the interior handle or the outside handle the problem most likely isn't the lock. The way that handle connects to the release it is held in place with a piece of plastic that breaks fairly easy. If that piece breaks the interior door handle won't activate the unlock function when pulled and you will have a heck of a time getting the door opened so you can get inside the panel to do the repair.

Unable to open rear nearside door. I have managed to take off the door card and can now see the inside of the door but both the inside and outside door handles appear to be working but the lock mechanism...

Is your car door set up to override the lock mechanism if the door handle is pulled?

If it is not set to override, is your door still locked when you use the handle?

If the door is unlocked, is your door latch in the open position when you test the handle?

If open, close the door latch (not the door, just the latch) and pull the handle to see if this releases.

If it doesn't, check to see if all the rods connecting to the latch mechanism and the handles are all in working order

Dishwasher door will not open.tried running it another cycle and still nothing. It is a GE profile with the latch that you just push in. The latch/handle seems stiff.

The plastic latch release inside the door handle is broken. Most likely one of the pins holding it in place has broken.

First go to your local dishwasher supplier and look at a similar brand (GE Profile in my case) and see how the mechanism works. Next, get a thin pair of siccors, pull the dishwasher handle down and slid the siccors into the opening above the handel and push the tab holding the door closed up so it will release.

Once the door is open, remove the inside of the door to get to the latch. Remove the plastic latch release and order a new one.

Door lock

When the actuator moves the latch up, it connects the outside door handle to the opening mechanism. When the latch is down, the outside door handle is disconnected from the mechanism so that it cannot be opened. So in this case your latch needs to be replaced, the latch or one of its parts is malfunctioning. the outside handle is never beening disconnected from the latch. remove the door panel visually inspect for damage, and take the proper repair
