My archos 504 quit charging right a while back when i plug it in it starts up and begins charging but shuts itself down or just shuts off shortly after and won't charge, a friend reccomended contect cleaner from guitar center that didn't help i have the 250g model and would love to get it working again if i have to format so be it i just want it to work again
I had the exact same problem, I looked a bit on the net and I found the answer. What you have to do is push the reset button when your archos isn't plugged on. The reset button is located behind the battery ( you'll have to the remove the battery ) near the pins that connects the archos to its battery. It looks like a gold circle and if you push it you'll see it's a button. After pushing the reset button try to put the battery on back again and replug your archos, it should work normally now.

For the first step you have to go on our website, and download the latest firmware update for your product.
Plug your Archos 504/604 on the computer and copy the firmware previously downloaded at the root of your device.
Disconnect your device as usual, and select done on the screen.
