I really hate to be the "bearer of bad tidings" but Troy Bilt, as a company, in no longer in business, MTD bought out the name and design rights for a lot of their tools but they are not manufacturing or stocking any parts for the older GardenWay/ Troy-Bilt machinees. My best suggestion would be tostart looking for a good used one or one with a blown engine, broken frame or whatever, buy it and canibalize it for spare parts

Use a business card to gap the magneto to flywheel. That dimension will work for 99.99%, and I can't tell you which one does NOT work...
Surface rust will not affect the coil function.

spark plug may be bad....we just had somewhat of the same problem and after going to the small motor repair shop, the guy explained that when the magnet in the flywheel comes to the magneto that's the firing point.....we had to replace both plug and coil
