Aiwa AV-X200 Stereo Receiver volume knob: When using the remote, the knob isn't spinning correctly any longer (doesn't spin, or spins really slow). Take the unit apart? What should I look for?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved from Washing Machines category.

Check out the video. It may just need cleaning with switch cleaner and a couple of drop of sewing machine oil. The fact it does move is a good sign.

I have a Sony FM Stereo/FM-AM Receiver model STR-DE325 that will not respond to volume up or down on the remote control. All of the other buttons on the remote work as they should and all functions of the...

No, I don't think there is a motor that is supposed to turn the volume - I think the volume is a push button type with one button to increase and another for down that is pushed by a clever rotary mechanism or if it isn't exactly like that the principle is probably a similar use of pure electronics.

It is clear the link between the infrared receiver and decoder and the volume electronics is broken and it will probably need a service engineer to discover where and effect a repair.

The volume knob on my JVC receiver is loose and the volume cant be turned up or down by the knob. Can i use a remote to turn it up or donw or do i have to look for a new receiver?

Assuming your receiver came with the ability to be remotely controlled, then yes, a universal remote such as the Logitech Harmony etc, will be able to control the volume.

Pioneer vsx1021k volume drops by itself at 3db increments until there is no volume. M volume is displayed when this happens as if someone was manually turning the volume knob.

Dirty rotary encoder (volume control ). If you are confident with opening the unit yourself, a spray of contact cleaner into the encoder might help. Ideally u should replace it.
OR
The volume minus button on your remote is dirty/shorted. Try removing remote control batteries and see if the issue disappears.

Yamaha rxv 870 - volume does not work from remote(s)

hi i have the same problem. yamaha rx-v870 with a remote control that works perfectly except for the volume up/down. i pressed the buttons for a minute and applied some lemon gunk remover liquid and this helped for a very short period. i am wondering if the problem is with the little motor inside the receiver that rotates the volume knob itself, as opposed to an infrared problem on the transmitter/receiver.

My Amplifier is in good working condition, except for the volume control has gone weird Using the remote, you can increase volume, but not decrease volume. On the unit, rotating the volume control...

Cleaning the contacts may help. The volume knob should pull off. Once its off use a non-flammable contact cleaning spray to clean the contacts behind the knob.

Electronics and automotive stores should have this.

Volume control does not turn volume down. Lost remote control CD Receiver LT-1

I have opened the same unit up. The volume control knob moves a plastic paddle against a right & left micro switches. The paddle is connected to the knob by a very thin piece of plastic which breaks very easily. I tried to glue a different piece of plastic on , but it only worked for a little while. It was a pain to assemble & reassemble the unit. I do not recommend trying it. Just buy another remote (about $35.00)!
Good Luck

Unplug the receiver for a minute then plug it back in. This resets the controls. If you still have a problem, post a comment and I will help you troubleshoot further. Hope this helps

Volume control on unit

Kent, Unfortunately, it sounds as if the encoder is broken. The encoder is a digital input which takes the place of a traditional volume control, and is what holds the volume knob in place and spins. Since it works fine with the remote, that means everything else is ok, but you will have to replace, or have a tech replace, the encoder itself.
