I'm presuming that the sound is actually working, and the missing icon is your only problem. If so, then there's no problem with your sound card.
I also presume you mean it's missing from your system "Notification Area" (aka "system tray"/"systray" located on the bottom right next to the clock on your "Taskbar").
If you're refering to your actual sound card GUI's (graphical user interface) icon:
- Open its program (should be somewhere in your list of program shortcuts within your Start button menu.
- Find the configuration area within that program that toggles on/off the icon you're missing, and viola!
If you're referring to the Windows "Volume" icon:
- Open "Sounds and Audio devices" in your list of "Control Panel" items.
- Check mark "Place volume icon in the taskbar" found on the "Volume" tab, and viola!
NOTE: You may need to restart (reboot) for the change to take effect.
