SOURCE: No 1384 firewire driver for Panasonic PV-GS300 camcorder

I found the recipe. To get my DV Camcorder to work using 1384 (Firewire) on my computer I did:

1. Get a good cable. If you paid less than $20 for it, you got the wrong one.
2. Ensure that the 1384 (firewire) port is enabled on your computer. Go into the BIOS setup and check to be sure. Mine was OFF!
3. If you get an error with Windows XP not being able to find your hardware, you need to get all the drivers. There are four or five of them along with a configuration file. Miss any one and you are dead. My solution was to reinstall Windows Service Pack 3. This took a long time, but fixed the driver problems.

Good luck!

When camcorder is turned on the screen shows red or yellow screen

I have the same problem of picture distortion when recording on my PV-GS200 camcorder. It's due to a faulty CCD block, which you can read about on various websites. I can play back pre-CCD failure tapes without a problem. Panasonic recalled quite a few GS200 camcorders with specific serial numbers in the US and Canada, and replaced the faulty 3-CCD chip free of charge. I just discovered this tonight and intend to ring Panasonic tomorrow, as the camcorder - bought new - lasted only two years before the CCD fault became apparent. Obviously, the camcorder was not of merchantable quality.

Green tint on screen

Is it a green tint at some areas alone, oris the entire image having a green tint? If it is a color patch at the corner or other areas of the screen, in all likelihood it is a degaussing problem. Color patches happen when the TV is moved from one location to another, or if some magnetic source is placed close to a CTV. Did you put a radio or Tape recorder or Walkie talkie toy or any magnetic source near the TV? if yes, remove it. And the automatic Dregaussing circuits in the TV will resolve the problem in a couple of days. But if there is an overall Green tint on the picture, it signifies a problem in the Video output stages, and there is nothing you can do, but call the technician (unless you know solid state servicing?)
