Have you tried contacting wallmart direct, they might be able to help. This is their phone number 860-292-1235.
Their website is http://www.walmart.com/store/2282/details
It's been 2 yrs. I hope you got this solved. If not, it's probably a bad battery or inept install. Some batteries sit on the shelf for a while and aren't rotated. In other cases the installer can innocently and unintentionally bend a battery contact. Rendering the watch useless. Take it back or to a jewelry store. A jewelry store usually has the tools and equipment to fix a messed up contact or at least they'll have a battery tester to determine the battery's charge. Usually a minimal charge like 4-8 bucks.
put a note on Facebook and suggestions - take it to a local jeweler, go to Wallmart where they have all kinds of batteries. So, I'll try the jeweler, and I have to find a wallmart - we are 14 miles from NYC - there must be one around here - so - not solved, but suggestions thanks anyway.adriana

When you buy your watch the manufacture puts in a battery that is made to last 5 years so that the watch can sit on the shelf and not need the battery changed before you have even bought it. Batteries you buy from a store or a watchrepair usually last about 1.5 years. Sometimes you can find a watchmaker who carries the five year batteries, but most people don't want to pay the $25-$30 to have it installed so most places won't carry them for rear they will never sell.I would also tell you NOT to buy your batteries from a grocery store or a Wallgreens type place because those batteries could have been sitting there for months, or even over a year. If you go to a watch repair they go through so many batteries that almost evey time you are getting a fresh battery.
If you open already the watch, and you want to take the old battery, there is a clip that's lock the battery twist that lock.then the battery comes out and replaced with a new one. If you have already put the battery and no display you must reset it by shorting battery connection,in the plate there is arrow guide to the hole where you put your tweezers to short the connection.then the display appears 8888,that is already resetted take the tweezers.. click below for video guide; G-ShockBattery Change Tutorial
