My HP computer wont start up. I have checked the power cord, power bar, outlet etc... and the light on top still remains out. I can't seem to find a way to turn it on. Has anyone had this problem or perhaps have a solution I can try out. Thanks in advance.
Hi, I have seen many of these act up. Most likely the power supply is out, and needs replacing. However it is a special proprietary part, and may need to be special ordered. Also these PC's have had problems with motherboards failing. I really recommend having a local shop check it out, to make sure your not buying a power supply when you need a motherboard. Hope this helps, if it does please rate my solution.
You probably need a new power supply. If this system is still covered under warranty, take it into an HP certified shop and they'll replace it for free. Power supplies are pretty cheap if you don't have a warranty on it. One other thing you can try is a different power cord if you have one.
It sounds like perhaps your power supply has failed, in which case you can have it load tested by a local computer technician to determine if that is in fact the case. Prior to that, you may want to work through some of the steps HP recommends in this link, as there are some people who've experienced troubles with vista's sleep and hibernation and its affect on startup.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
Most likely the power supply is going bad, probably from heat. Since it is a special order part, you can get your system running again temporarily by unplugging the power cord, open the case and unplug the power supply from the motherboard and then reset it. The system should power back up once you connect all the cables back to it.
Is the monitor power led lighting up?.If its just the display check the keyboard & mouse jacks(ps2/USB) for any bent pins & for USB blowdry after inserting alcohol/spirit in the sockets at the back of the CPU(look for the keyboard led & optical mouse lights up or not. Also open the side panel & see if the JEDD lights up on the motherboard, this will ceckif piwer is coming to the MB or not. Check all pwer/IDE cables for snug tightness. If all fine then disconnect all non essential hardware and try booting with support of the CD ROM with the bootable OS disc in the tray....................sodeep
