I had this same problem with my 7 month old Panny 42 PZ700U,Panasonic sent tech out to pick up and was repaired 3 weeks later...3 months now and still works great!!! Tech said SC board was bad,and also said that there have been "some" repairs on these sets, but for as many of these sets that are out there, the repair rate is low compared to other brands.
I got the same problem...contacted panasonic because it was within the one year warranty, nice customer service but after that service fell thru...likely i had circuit city warranty and they got right on it to find a repair guy...but after a week parts are on back order and by reading....don't know if it will fix or not...i am letting this play out and will post the results.....really severe problem with the Sep-Oct 07 builds, i suppose..
Same problem. Have to wait until they open back up tomorrow to make the call.
I am also having a problem with mine. One day I got a message on the screen that said An error has been detected and recovered. The next day the tv shut off and seemed to be recycling (turning itself back on) and then the power button flashed 13 times. I called Panasonic PISSED and they told me it meant that a servicer needed to come check it out, blah, blah.
So today the guys showed up and they said that they would have to take it with them and I said NO, Panasonic told me they were going to send you the parts and it would be fixed in my home.
So they are coming back on Saturday to replace three of the circuit boards (power and I forget the two others). Needless to say I am VERY DISAPPOINTED with Panasonic because I have only had this set in my place for FOUR months and this happened. BS. Truthfully Panasonic should simply exchange these sets because something was obviously missed in their QUALITY CONTROL.
I have a similar problem. It turns on ok, but after an hour, if I turn it off and try to power up again I get 10 flashing red lights. Must unplug and wait to cool down to room temp - then it works. Had the H-PCB and DG-PCB replaced and still no luck. I am exchanging for another one. The service guys want to take it with them, but would provide a loaner. Need to return this within the next two weeks to get an exchange...

Service guy is coming tommorrow.....My red light is flashing 7 times. Will keep you updated!
I'm having the same problem, seven flashes then a five second pause, then it flashes again, and it will not come on.
IM having the same problem i was playing xbox and the tv just cut of now when i try to tun it back on the power lights blinks 7 times
Me too : ( But I have noticed that it only happens when the TV gets too much sunlight or on a hot day so it is a heating problem. If you tunr off, wait 15 seconds and reboot it can recover after 2-3 times then wroks weel for a month. I am going to get a heatsync or two installed.
I also have a similar problem. My TV freezes up on me when I am watching cable and then won't do anything (turn off and none of the functions of the remote will work). I have to unplug it to get it to turn off. I can sometimes get it to turn back on, but for the most part, the red light will come on, but it won't turn on.
TV worked good for 44 days, then shutdown and gave flashing light power light 10 times, called Panasonic, stet they can send tech in 4 days!!!!. unsat!, awaiting stores to open to retun unit, will not wait 4 days for tech to come out then latter tell me they need parts etc. have tried powering off no luck, unplugged no luck.
I'm having the same problem with my 6 month old set. The light flashes 7 times then pauses. I waited 4 days for the techs to come out and find that the part sent by Panasonic didn't fix it. They want to take it back to the shop to trouble shoot. They said it'll take another 4-5 days. I called Panasonic to complain and it seemed they could care less... The tech said they have a loaner at the shop but can't bring it out because its raining. What BS!!! I won't let them take mine if they can't bring there own in the rain. Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend Panasonic to any one at the moment...
Have 45 day old Panasonic TH-42PZ700U that stopped coming on. Red Power light flashes 7 times. nothing WTF
I also have this problem with a 3 month old unit. Power light flashes 7 times and unit will not turn on. If I unplug it, plug it back in and try to turn it on, it goes on for about 5 seconds. During the warmup, the screen briefly flashes and it immediately shuts off followed by the flashing power light. This appears to be a common problem with these televisions so perhaps Panasonic should recognize a pattern and do something about it! I can't believe this was the highest rated 42-inch Plasma by Consumer Reports. Well, I can't wait to provide Consumer Reports with my experience on the next product survey!
Same Problem. Service guy coming on Thursday. I did not have machine all that long. Only a few months old.
Purchased TH-42PZ700U a few months ago. Unit turns on briefly but sceen does not light up and remains black. A red indicator light flashes seven times aftere a brief pause. Panasonic must be aware of a problem because they asked me about the indicator light and immediately responded by stating that they will send a service person out, and it would be covered under warranty. Panasonic tech. support will be sending someone out to me on Thursday evening., two days after my call. I am not certain I am ok with that solution. It is a relatively new machine and that is what I want. A machine free of defects and a long shelf-life. Best of luck to all, Abe
I am having the same problem. TV goes on for a split second then the power light flashes 7 times. Our TV is only 7 months old. It seems we are not the only ones having this problem. Whatever the problem is Panasonic needs to address it and fix it. We all payed a lot of money for a TV that is supposed to work! How many people are required to file a class action law suit?
I have same problem red light flashes 7 times unpluged it overnight no use gonna contact panasonic in the morning does anybody know what the problem is
Yes... same problem here. Worked fine for 7-8 months, then today won't power up. Light flashes 7 times and set appears to try to turn on, but nothing. Will be contacting Panasonic tomorrow and expect satisfaction. Clearly this is and has been a quality control issue for a while. Very disappointing PANASONIC.
th42pz700 keeps shutting off flashing red light .
I came in from a concert last night, knowing I shut it off before I left. Â Came home and tried to turn it on to wind down from the concert, and the TV wouldn't turn on. Â The LED flashed 7 times, which immediately told me it's an error code. Â I don't get how I spent 1500 dollars, not even 6 months ago, and I'm getting a power problem. Â I just sent an error report to Panasonic, hopefully I get a response soon. Â Good luck everyone.
I have the same problem.
TV bought 6 months ago. It doesn't turn on anymore. A red light keeps on flashing.
A real piece of sh... I won't buy Panasonic anymore.
My question is: does the repair work or do I have to insist to get a refund?

Th-42pz700u - same problem as described - not turning on, red light flashing 7 times. As it occurs in warranty time it was fixed in April '08. One day after warranty it broke down again, same problem. As 'this' is inherent to the April problem/7 red blinks it was tried to solve it with 4 or 5 new 'blocks' (internal structures or part of that stuff...). After the latest new-part was installed, the measurement was still off. Which is clearly a structural problem/the clue.
For which reason Panasonic generously will replace with a new one.
good luck/best regards
tom/ca.
Same problem with the th-42px700U: '7 red flashes, on for a second' - April last ('08) after nine months it broke down. Was fixed under warranty. One day after warranty it broke down again/same problem. As this problem originated and is the same of the one of April, Panasonic honored the warranty still. However, technicians had to come back twice to get it working again. 4, 5 or 6 new circuit boards were installed. Unfortunately after technicians got it working again the measuring was not in compliance and the connection with the pc was still not working. Clue: Structural failure.
Panasonic will now generiously replace with a new unit.
goodluck, best regards
tom/ca
Ditto. As above, sama sama.
Won't turn on, blinking red light. 7-8 months old.

Same problem! 42PZ700U was working in the morning; by night it was dead. Red light blinks 7 times, pauses and then blinks again- over and over. Called Panasonic - they even have a "Team 7" to direct the problem to so there must be a **** load of them.
I have an extended warranty with Best Buy so the Geek Squad is coming out to check the thing over. Hope it's fixable. If I need a replacement, I might consider LCD.
After enjoying the 42PZ700U for 15 months, I got the 7 blinking lights. Called Panasonic and registered the problem, which they said they would talk to me more about it if I faxed them the receipt. *Of course*, this is the one receipt I couldn't seem to find. I purchased it at Best Buy and they said they could send a copy of the receipt by the end of that week. In the meantime, my wife called a TV repair guy who came out, took off the back and was completely baffled by the problem. He had to take it back to the shop. Well they've had it for two weeks now, and Best Buy is still trying to send me my receipt. I can't talk to Panasonic till I can produce proof of purchase, but when I do, they have one opportunity to set this right. A set like this should not blow a gasket three months out of warranty.
When turning the television on it makes a clicking sound as if it is going to turn on but the red button comes on but no sound or picture appear
