The freezer works fine just makes loud clicking noise. the fan is not hitting anything. The second I kill the power the noise quits. If the fan motor is making the noise would the noise still continue with no power and the fan still turning? The fan does have play in it from in and out, not a wabbly play. Could this be a bearing in the fan motor? Also can a freezer compressor motor be used for an air compressor?
I have seen this specific problem. and I solved it.
It's the fan "bouncing" against the motor housing. Nothing wrong with fan -- design flaw. The way I solved this problem was to shim the fan mount so the fan was at a slight angle off level -- this keeps the shaft from moving in and out and the fan banging against the housing.
Here's a link discussing your queston about making an air compressor from a refrigerator compressor.
