Honda EU6500iS Inverter Generator Logo

I have a eu 6500is generator inverter that will run perfectly for any amount of time, then with no warning just stop generating and idle. No overload alarm. No oil alarm. Nothing will just idle. If you shut it off for a few minutes it will work just fine for a time them repeat the cycle. The oil level is perfect. Air filter perfect. The unit is perfectly maintained. I had this happen in the summer when it was in 112 degree temps, but we are now using it in winter with temps in the low negatives and single digits to low teens above zero, so overheating isn't a problem. Any suggestions or thoughts?

This sounds like a capasitor/resistor that is getting hot under load once it is switched off and cools down it works until it gets hot again similar to that of a cars ignition coil which will get hot and cut the vehicle out but once it cools it will start again.

Check the Ground Fault Indicator circuit breaker for triping, and look for the high limit on generator. Reset the main breaker by triping it full right and then back. Vitally

SOURCE: I have a Honda EU

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly a 1955 model life long electrician.
I don't remember where the capacitor is on this unit. I think it is in the control panel area. I am pretty sure the capacitor is breaking down. It will be either a 25 uF or 31.5 uF capacitor. Look for what appears to be candle wax dirpping out of it or... any signs of swelling. I have had this happen on my own generator 2 times over 10 years. I finally bought oil filled capacitors and the wax leak / eventual failure . overloading problems are gone. Have your capacitor checked. Test across the leads for resistance at R x 1000 and watch that resistance drifts to infinity. Reverse the leads and watch for the same resistance and drift to infinity. Inspect the capacitor wires as far as you can inspect them. Usually there is a disconnect terminal before the stator winding. The connectors somtimes get hot and start cooking off the connectors. Many times I have had to simply cut out the connectors, solder the wires together and cover them with heat shrinkable tubing. The same goes for stator winding wires but not that often. Most of the time it is the capacitor field wires that have problems.

Is this an EU3000, EU3000-I, or EU3000-IS model?

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Hello I have a generator honda inverter eu6500is and after 30 min aprox without load it stopped and Oil and overload alarm stay on. I let cool down for 15 minutes and he start again and stopped in 30...

The two alarms simultaneous is questionable. My first thought is faulty control board but requires further troubleshooting. Check for loose cable connections and grounds.

As a test; check oil level. If oil level is safe, disconnect oil level sensor and see if problem goes away. If problem reoccurs, troubleshoot oil warning circuit.

Yamaha 2400IS Generator goes to overload when ie: 240 volt plugged in, or 700 watt angle grinder plugged in.

No idea but somebody else will probably come along with a better idea then mine, seems a lot of these generators have this thing installed on them (Has $25 hard start kit). Not sure what it does or how it works. Strangely enough you said you use it for 240 volt. Looked at the picture and didn't see a 240 volt connection.
If you are using the what look like the 120 volt circuits you can't over load the unit. Maximum current draw will cause it to go into protection mode and shut down the power load. The following is an exert from the owners manual which I got from Yamaha's site. Link at the end of this post.

Hope this helps

Overload indicator light
The overload indicator light
1
comes on when an over-
load of a connected electrical device is detected, the
inverter control unit overheats, or the AC output voltage
rises. The electronic breaker will then activate, stopping
power generation in order to protect the generator and
any connected electric devices. The AC pilot light
(green) will go off and the overload indicator light (red)
will stay on, but the engine will not stop running.
When the overload indicator light comes on and power
generation stops, proceed as follows:
1. Turn off any connected electric devices and stop
the engine.
2. Reduce the total wattage of connected electric
devices within the application range.
3. Check for blockages in the cooling air inlet and
around the control unit. If any blockages are found,
remove.
4. After checking, restart the engine.

Eu6500is generator trips to red unload when ac is on

Air conditioner compressors require a greater amount of electricity (measured in both volts and amps, but the amps are what is causing the overload). You will need a larger generator to run your AC. You might be able to run a smaller AC unit, but always check the Amps required and compare that to the Amps the circuit breaker on the generator is rated for.

How to correct e04 error cod or governor circuit on eu 6500is generator

The "governer" is really a throttle motor (basically a servo motor) that sits on top of the carb that gets its signal from the inverter and adjusts the throttle according to compensate for load power output. My first place to look would be that small motor on the top of the carburetor. I have seen them go bad so they either bind up or burn out.

Stops generating and just idles

Check if there any alarm on monitor by pressing button several times. It has code like E-number. Replace spark plug, fuel filter. Clean carburator, spark arrester. Check wiring of thermosensor.

Heart Freedom 20 will not default to generator power.

First of all it is possible that the is no power going into the inverter, trace the input source to see if the connection from the generator is ok. check the fuse if it is broken if not, the contactor or switching relay in the inverter is bad
