Check the hand wheel. There should be a smaller wheeel in the center of the hand wheel. Make sure it is locked in(turn center wheel clockwise or could be counter clockwise til snug)

SOURCE: needle wont go up and down.

well,it seem that your upper camshaft was stuck due to several factor on mechanical linkages and maybe on gears. You have to isolate the checking since you have clean lower bobbins free from dirt and thread/fabrics chips. If there an opening on top of machine open it to check some mechanical destorsion or breakage.Check some broken gears inside. If nothing try to open also at the bottom of machine cover and there are also belt and gears connected to the motors and bobbins shuttle holder if so oil all shafting oil port, oil port bushing specially on bushing near hand wheel there is port for oil,
check also motor assembly of machine, you can disconnect belt from motor release the bolt holding motor adjust to lower tension belt and release the belt.Take some tools such as monkey pliers or small pipe wrench that can hold hand wheel just crack in order to move suddenly after oiling for several hours sometime bushing and shafting rushes emerged or if you have anti rush spray put in on.After cracking and you can move a little crack only by your hand several time lleft and right until all linkages free from rush.If you can move all parts and hand wheel rotate freely.Check also motor by rotating the small pulley conncted to motor if free to move.if ok put back and reassembly all parts disconnected.try to move again by hand if free to move after all asssembly.Run machine using foot pedal.

Hand piece is very tight to turn and unable to use the machine

Make sure to clean/remove all the lint, thread, dust, etc. that may have built up in the bobbin area, around the feed dogs, and under the needle plate. Sometimes gunk build-up will prevent the hand wheel from turning. Remove the bobbin & bobbin case from the machine and the needle and see if the hand wheel will turn. If not, then it may be time for service.

The needle acts like it is hitting something but there are no threads.

Test: Put needle on straight stitch. Put needle all the way to the left and turn the hand wheel forward.
Now move the needle to the right and do this again.
Did the hand wheel move all the way for one of the two sides the needle was placed?
If your answer is yes then you need to get the machine timed.
Also, make sure that your brake used for winding the bobbins is tight. If it is tight then loosen the small screw (usually on front of hand wheel). Move the brake forward a little more to tighten and then tighten the small screw again. Look at my picture.

In sewing mode the motor turns but needle does not move. I have checked bobbin & upper thread - any help?

1. Try to turn the hand wheel. Does the needle move?
2. Make sure the center wheel on the hand crank is tight.
Try the hand wheel now. If you still don't have luck try this.
3. Loosen the center wheel on the hand wheel. There is a small screw on the center wheel on the front or side. Loosen it until it almost comes out.
4. Now tighten the center wheel. (clockwise) Does the needle move if you move the hand wheel? If it does you can tighten the small screw.
5. If this doesn't do the job you will have to take the cover to the motor off. The motor has a bolt to loosen. As you loosen the bolt you can move the motor until it tightens the belt and makes it aligned as well. Run the motor slowly with the foot pedal and adjust the motor until it operates at it's highest speed. Now tighten. Replace all covers.
6. The belt is sometimes in need of replacing but not usual. You will know when you take the panel off.

Thread jammed in the bobbin area and unable to move the needle

Switch off machine. Snip as much thread away as possible, take tweezers and pull out all loose thread; remove bobbin case if possible; remove needle plate and work from the top; turn crank wheel by hand gently to move needle up and down. It should shift in time if you work carefully to remove all jammed threads.

Sewing machine grinding and needle won't go up and down without force. Air and cloth cleaned what I could.

THIS IS HARD W/O BEING THERE. ANYWAY HERE ARE SOME IDEAS:
1. REMOVE BOBBIN, CARRIER AND CLEAN AREA. OIL IN THE RACE (UNDER WHERE THE CARRIER GOES)-ONE DROP ONLY. TRY TO HAND ROTATE. IF IT IS OK THEN THE BOBBIN CARRIER WAS INSTALLED WRONG.
2. MOVE THE NEEDLE BAR BY MOVING THE HAND WHEEL. PLACE ONE DROP OF OIL ON THE BAR.
3. REMOVE THE TOP OF MACHINE AND MONITOR ALL MOVING PARTS AND CLEAN (USE QUE TIP). ANY PARTS STUCK TOGETHER MAY NEED A SMALL AMOUNT OF CARBURETOR CLEANER. OIL ALL MOVING METAL PARTS THAT MAKE CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER.
4. UNDER THE MACHINE REMOVE THE LID AND CLEAN AND OIL JUST AS ABOVE.
5. TRY TO MOVE THE HAND WHEEL.
6. IF THIS STILL DOESN'T WORK THE BELT MAY BE OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THE BELT HAS TO BE DONE BY REMOVING THE HAND WHEEL. ONCE THE BELT IS ACCESSED THE BOLT UNDER THE MOTOR IS LOOSENED. IF POSSIBLE TRY TO APPLY THE FOOT PEDAL A LITTLE WHILE ADJUSTING THE BELT. IT SHOULD NOT BE REAL TIGHT BUT MUST BE IN ALIGNMENT. PAY ATTENTION TO THE AMOUNT OF TURNS IT TAKES TO REMOVE THE OUTSIDE SHINY PART OF THE HAND WHEEL SO IT IS EASIER TO SET IT PROPERLY.
