Check it with an external meter to verify. if showing different.cb shop temple, tx on yahoo search. would take it to a shop to have the swr board redone. or could just be a simple pot.. even from factory they have problems.

How do I set my swr on my galaxy dx 33 hml CB radio with a astatic swr meter and a top loaded tunable fire stick antenna

Watch the meter as you adjust the antenna. Try to get an SWR of 1:1, or as close to it as you can get.

I have a galaxy dx48t, there is no calibrate on the swr meter, how do I check my swr?

galaxy has the unique feature of a self tuning SWR but they do go out of set everyonce in a while.you would have to use an external meter to set the SWR then use the radios meter to monitor it.

Self adjusting SWR does not work on 959 Galaxy

the swr on the radio is not what you are thinking it is. You have to set the SWR to anything below a 2.0 and the meter will let you know when and if your swr gets to high.

When i unkey my mic, my swr lights come on. sometimes they flicker sometimes the dont, what is wierd is sometimes they stay on for a seccond or two and the meter show full

VR9, VR2 or VR15 may just be out of adjustment. This does assume you are transmitting signal and recieving.

It might not hurt to check with second SWR meter.

Depending on location, there is only a tiny possibility of residual capacitance causing this. However you might want to put a few neon bulbs around your base to monitor for stray RF. If there is stray RF, they will light up- no need to connect them to anything, you can tape them to convenient places you can see. If they do light up- check coax connectors- which you should really do as a routine anyway, and check coax for damage. Then add a flat braid strap ground to "earth bond" for the radio. Which you should have anyway,

How to set swr galaxy dx 949

you do not "set" swr.you cannot set it on the radio. the radio can tell you what yourswr is. it can take an swr measurement. swr has to do with the antenna system. in order for the radio waves to radiate from the antenna properly, the physical length of the antenna must match the length of the radio waves. if the antenna is too long or too short you will have a higher swr ratio. the higher the ratio the less energy will leave the antenna. but that energy needs to go somewhere, so it goes back into the radio which causes damage and can ruin a radio.

first turn the channel to 20. then switch the meter switch to CAL. then key the radio. while keyed, turn the CAL knob up until the needle in the meter gets right to the CAL Mark. next flip the meter switch and key the radio. where ever he needle is, is what your swr is.if it is more the 1.5 that's getting high. if its over 2 you are in the danger zone. if its over 3 you are damaging your radio. you must repeat the calibration proceedure for every channel.to figure out weather your antenna is too long or short, you compare the swr readings from channel 1 and ch 40. if the swr is higher in 1 then on 40 the entenna is too short. if its higher on 40 then 1 its to long.

I want to know the correct method on how to do a SWR test with the Galaxy 959.I have a 5 foot self adjustable firestik and have mounted it to a 4mm thick aluminum plate 30 cm square and will have it higher...

The best way is with an antenna analyzer but that is too expensive unless you do SWRs for a living. The meter on the radio should suffice for your needs.
Adjust the screw on the antenna until it is about 1/2 inch out.
Place the srf/swr switch to swr.
Go to channel 1 and note the SWR reading on the meter.
Go to channel 40 and do the same.
If channel 1 SWR is higher than channel 40, then screw the tuning screw out a turn or 2.
If channel 40 SWR is higher than channel 1, then screw the tuning screw in a turn or 2.
Repeat until the SWR on channel 1 is the same as 40. Channel 19 will be the lowest.

If you are not comfortable using the built in SWR meter, you will have to invest around $20 for a small SWR meter.

This radio has swr meter

S.W.R == Standing Wave Ratio, this is a Relative measurement of the Amount of Power Going UP the Antenna, Versus the Amount of power being "Reflected" Down, the Antenna. This ratio, is displayed, as a reading on the meter. Also Often this SWR meter is dual used as an "S" Meter, this is used ti display relative signal levels from other transmitters. and is shown, as an "S" Scale. 0 - 9 on the meter.

he is right . the needle always goes up even a small amount, we tune around 1.0  check patch lead or is there anything else that could be calling you problems. eg a mast or an internal problem. the radioshack has a battery that leaks and cause the same problem.

It transmits off frequency is there a adjustment and also the frequency counter goes crazy at times

To add 10Khz to your transmit frequency:

FIXED/OFF/+10KHz SWITCH:
The left position puts the radio on
one of the three fixed channels that is selected by the channel switch
(6,19, or 21). This over-rides the channel selected by the 40 channel
knob. The right position adds 10KHz to whatever frequency you are ON.
In the middle, both features are OFF.

Otherwise, a radio tech would be able to retune the frequency inside the radio.

After adding 10KHz to your frequency, use the SWR control to check the SWR of your antenna.
Here's how:
SWR CAL CONTROL: Normally this switch is set to “PO”. Then,
during transmission, the meter indicates output power. To read SWR,
rotate this knob during transmission until the needle moves to the “SET”
point on the SWR scale. Then, while still transmitting, set the R.B./SWR
switch to SWR.

Ideal SWR is 1 but you'll want to be as near one as possible. An SWR of 1.6 or greater will make ineffective use of your antenna.
If in doubt, a radio tech has the required meters and tools to adjust the SWR/Tuning of your antenna.
