I dont know how to download/install programs on my macbook
The easiest way to download and install programs is using the App Store. Sign in with your Apple ID or create one if you haven't already and download or buy any app you want. If you don't have the App Store installed on your MacBook then you probably have an older version of the operating system. In this case browse to a website containing an app you wish to download, follow the instructions on the website to download it and then open the downloaded file (it is usually in the 'Downloads' folder). Once you open the downloaded file you are either going to get an installation window or a window with the downloaded app inside. If you get the installation window, just follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. If you get the window with the app inside, then just drag the app from that window to whatever folder you wish to save it to (usually the 'Applications' folder). Once that's done, locate your app and open it.
