My TV all the sudden stopped working. It was off - went to turn it on, hit the power button on the remote and it suddenly started to make a loud whining/whirring sound coming from the top back of the set. The power on the TV never turned on and could not get the sound to stop without unplugging it. As soon as I plugged it back in, the sound started up again. None of the buttons work on either the remote or the TV.
Is it time to find something else or is it worth fixing? Its probably 5 years old.

My RCA Home Theatre Premier stopped working after about 5 years. It has the same symtoms as the other two contributors; whirring at the top rear of the set, and will not power off. . . . . have to unplug it. Have tried to find an RCA certified repair person through the RCA website but cannot get any response through their "contact us" link. Have come to the conclusion that they are not interested in customer service, just the quick easy buck on an inferior product. Any suggestions on a repair for this problem . . . or better yet, a reliable product that will not self distruct when the warrenty expires? Thanks! Diane
TV was working fine this morning and now it won't turn on. I tried both the remote and on/off button on the front of the unit.
Any ideas....
