The cd tray wont open on sony mhc-rx70

Try 1st: You can take a q-tip dipped in alcohol (not dripping), rub the lens and gently blow it off with canned air. This will remove dust from under the lens as well. I don't recommend "lens cleaner CD's" that you can purchase as they sometimes rip of the lens.

Try 2nd: If the CD does not spin up to the proper speed, it is the motor that spins the disk. This can be temporarily fixed by disconnecting the motor wires and using a 9 volt battery to spin the motor in each direction. The trick is to reverse the direction while it is still turning in the opposite direction. This will hopefully burn off the carbon and debris in the motor contacts.

Most CD trays will open if you shut off equipment and pull gently but firmly to overcome the slight initial resistance. Don't use so much force that it seems likely that the tray mech will break. This calls for a serious bit of taking apart and is best left to the local repair shop.

Check if the tray got a belt and change it

I also have exactly the same problem with the volume control. I was hoping to resolve the problem by doing some internal cleaning but seems like johanknopper tried it before.

I was thinking of buying a remote control separately as I lost mine in relocations. Found a second hand on-line but I am not sure if they all have the same frequency and if it works with mine.

Any Ideas?

Seems like the Timingfor the Tray Open / close has got disturebed. Could be a bad drive gear, or as simple as a loose Drive belt. Get it checked by a professional.
