I have the hamilton beach durathon 19803 iron and the retractable cord keeps retracting while i iron

When cords won't retract, it's usually because they were pulled out too far, ie: past the red line on the cord.
Retractable cords have a limit to how far they can be pulled out in order for the spring to be able to "rewind" them back.
On products with retractable cords, they have a red line near the base of the cord to warn you to stop.

There is no reset, You will have to replace iron. Based on the price there are repair parts available.

Replace it, don't run the rick of a fire.

check the thermal fuse stick on the iron plate inside the machine or clean the thermostat under the knob

Don't be in such a rush to repair your Rowena when the cord won't retract. Simply spray the opening with silicone spray and wait 20 minutes. Hit the retract button and VOILA!!!!!

If it's less than a year old take it back to be repaired under warranty.

see the diagram and see if there are any part broken, or worn and replace. Tank or ports clogged.and repair

under the knob to press to retract the cord there is a screw,
slacken it ad try to adjust it again.
