    For XP:

Check the resolution on your video:

    Start>Control Panel>Display>settings.

You should see a slider .slide it to the left to a lower resolution.

We will see black bars on the video sometimes. In fact, it is all about aspect ratios. In the old days, the 4:3 aspect ratio is a standard format, but with the development of technology, 16:9 format appears. So when you play 4:3 format video in a 16:9 play window, naturally, black bars will appear. This time, you can also crop a video to fit the aspect ratio too. Keep reading to know how to crop a video.

Picture has went small with black borders at both sides

That is because the boadcast aspect ratio of the video is not suited for the widescreen so they "Letter Box" the image.

When I play dvds or watch videos on youtube the screen has a black border on both sides reducing the size of the screen

If you hit full screen on the youtube video and its not full screen, then it sounds like your monitor resolution is to low.

Rt click on a place on your screen and pick screen resolution, then pick resolution and increase it.

The first number is width, so say it's on 800x600 then go 1024x768

Borders on external monitor after Dell Latitude D630 wakes from sleep

Thomas Motley,
Your monitor is displaying like it is because the graphics card refresh rate has changed. Check that the display driver is correct for your graphics card and that you are not using the generic windows driver. If the driver is correct then look in desktop properties, settings, advanced, monitor and check that the refresh rate is correct for you monitor.

Thank You,

Remove cover from HP w2408h monitor

pop the roundish 'HP' cover of the back of the stand. Remove the 4 black screws and the stand comes away. The case is just a clamshell affair, the main piece is the rear cover, the LCD front plastic border locks into it. The screen with components mounted is sitting loose in the back cover once the front border is removed. The trick is to pry off the front border without damage. Hook the fingers under the border where it lays against the LCD screen, wiggle, pull, curse and do it again. The top and bottom borders come loose easier than the end borders. Once these are popped free, stand the unit on end between your knees and pry away the end borders. A wide putty knife slipped between the border and metal frame will save your fingers but don't damage the screen. When the front border is off, lay the unit face-up on a table, undo the screws for the control panel and power switch modules, flip it over and lift off the back panel. Everything is under a metal casing.. I had no voltage from the power supply, trying to find a Fairchild chip SG6902SZ on the small control module, P/N ILTR-003, else the Pwr Bd, P/N ILP-004..

Black borders

Check the resolution settings on your cable box, you may have to call your cable provider to find out how to get into the settings menu, there is a stretch function in the settings that should make all the lower channels auto fit your screen, also see if there's a p=size button on your remote control, try pushing that when on the channels that have sidebars.
