Question about RCA Onkyo Ht-r510 Receiver 6.1 Channel Dolby Digital / Dts

Intermittent speaker performance - receiver issue - not a speaker issue

I have an Onkyo HT-R510 that is no longer functioning correctly. I purchased it as a home theater in a box, and have not changed the original configuration from the years that it was working fine. The issue is that the speakers are functioning intermittently. The issue moves from speaker to speaker, and when disconnecting the leads, stays with the source and not the speaker. Also, the combination of correctly functioning speakers changes. As of yesterday, only the left rear speaker functioned. This system has 3 front and 3 rear speakers, in addition to the subwoofer. I suspect that the issue lies inside of the receiver. I did open the receiver and clean it using compressed air, but this did not change the performance, and truth be told, it wasn't all that dirty inside the box. Do you have a recommendation as to what I can check next?

Matt,

Have you checked/cleaned the leads on each speaker as one bad lead or speaker can pull/push extra power from/to other speakers causing shorts, this is likely not the case but could be the easy fix. Try cutting one speaker out at a time rotating which one is disconnected to see if this fixes the issue and possibly points out either a bad speaker or connection.

SOURCE: Receiver frying noise

I have the same unit and discovered there's 2 cooling fans inside.
one is not working at all and the other is turning very slow.
With that said I'd open the cover and see if it's the fans.

SOURCE: rt2770 home theater receiver rca. Hp In?

Mine does the exact same thing. If I pick up the front end of the unit and slam it down on a hard surface, it then displays HP out and sound comes out!! Freaking retarded. I wish I knew what was wrong with it! I asked RCA and of course they never responded. What a joke!

Onkyo HT-R510

have you tried to reset it to factory defaults yet? If it has a vcr button on the front, then hold the vcr button and press power...it should say reset on the front. Might not help, but worth a try.

Remote will no longer power on Onkyo HT-S3500. Once I turn it on manually, the rest of the functions work properly.

I just had this same issue. I tried to change the batteries for the factory remote that came with the Onkyo HT-S3500 (remote: RC-799M). Still no luck. It would not power on with the remote, despite the light flashing and the and all other remote function working. If I powered on the receiver manually, everything worked (except power on/off).
I just pushed a button on the remote labeled "REMOTE MODE RECEIVER" and viola, the remote now powers the device on and off and works just like usual. Not sure what the heck happened, but I would suggest pushing that button on your remote.

I can not figure out how to adjust the balance on my speakers. It seems that one speaker in louder than the other. I cant find my manual and i've been tinkering with the receiver with no avail.

Tinkering won't work. HT510??? Not HTR510? Maybe that's what you meant.

All AVR's have settings for individual speaker channel levels and distances from the listening position.

Selecting phono preamp for Onkyo HT-R510

The magnetic cartridge preamp should work with the turntable, as presumably it will have a magnetic cartridge in it. The only reason that the amp states "magnetic" is that some very old turntables have ceramic cartridges which should not be connected to that terminal. Even if the turntable had a "ceramic" it could be replaced with a magnetic one!

Might be over heating. Make sure you don't have anything sitting directly on top of it. I even put a little fan blowing outward at the back of my system to keep it cool.
