Ac Problems Im in FL 93F im hooked up to 110 /30 A and i have the AC running the entire day. The Breaker trips several times a day when the compressor kicks in. If i reset it, the entire inside of the coach is flickering and often the Breaker trips again. It a a 2009 Coachmen Prism so the AC is new, it is a 13.5 BTU Dometic Duotherm Roof Unit. The Breaker box is getting hot too.

Because they are garbage. They are to sensitive for the actual start up of an air conditioner. Take the gfi breaker out, when day of inspection put it in. Take it out when inspector leaves.

Sounds like your compressor is shorted to ground. If you are able, unhook compressor, wrap wires and restart. If breaker doesn't trip than u know.

Lights dim, moaning from AC, just before it trips breaker? Have you checked incoming voltage? What type of plug are you hooked up to, 30, or 50 amp?

What else do you have running on hydro while AC is running? Such as coffee maker, microwave, water heater, fridge. That 30 amp breaker is your main breaker I assume, or breaker on pole your plugged in to. Keep in mind your AC will normally draw approx. 15-17+ amps momentarily when compressor kicks in to cool, then drop back to 12-15 amps when running normal. If your AC is drawing too much current, then you would only normally trip 20 amp breaker for AC in your panel. Try switching other appliances to gas operation while running AC, such as water heater, and fridge. Make sure incoming voltage is up to specs as well . (115-120 volts)
If water heater takes 5-8 amps, and fridge takes same when they are calling for power, you'll be close or over the 20amp mark when you consider your on board converter etc. as well. That only leaves approx 10 amps for AC that requires approx 15 amps to run, and up to 20amps when compressor kicks in. If you switch all those other items over to propane, and it still happens, then a current draw test should be done on AC unit to see if perhaps a capacitor is faulty, or possible compressor faulty.

High amp draw can be caused by a few different things, so first check that incoming voltage to trailer is sufficient. (115 volts) Not unusual for some parks to install more hydro hook-ups on a feed line, and when all are up and running, your incoming voltage could be decreased. If your o.k. that way, then I'd start looking at the compressor circuit of your ac, in particular, the compressor start-up capacitor. The capacitor basically stores electricity and boosts it to higher voltage for compressor and fan start-ups to reduce current draw that will trip the breaker. Please have a knowledgeable electrician, or RV tech check this for you, as a capacitor can give a real good high voltage (possible fatal) shock, even when power is off to unit. I also suspect that the start relay has shorted (welded) itself due to high amp draw situation, and that is reason it comes on by itself.

is your breaker is ok or lose concation is good.if this both is good than cheek his overload.

Two things that you could check: 1) If you have access to an ampmeter, determine if the unit is drawing over over 14 or 15 amps, 2) replace the suspect circuit breaker in case it is beginning to go bad. Breakers only trip for overcurrent conditions or failure of the breaker itself. If it is pulling close to 15 amps, then it could heat up over time and trip.

The compressor may be old or the starting capacitor is weak. Could be bad connection on the AC supply line or pitted contacts on the run relay. Check all AC wiring supply connections even in the house electrical panel for tightness, Replace the starting capacitor first.
If it still has a problem install a hard start capacitor kit. Could even be a bad breaker - breaking out on a lower current draw.

The compressor motor , once warm is grounding out due to wear and is going bad.Have the compressor replace while it is still clean is cheeper and easier that doing it after a burn out,which  will eventually happen,if the compressor is tripping the brreaker as I suspect..
