No audio device error message and I've tried everything I could think of to fix things. No luck
It would seem that your audio card or audio processor chip has died. If this is a desktop (or tower) pc, you may have an audio card plugged into the motherboard (mainboard). This can be removed and replaced. If the audio plugs come directly out of the motherboard you should still have open slots on the motherboard where you can plug in a new replacement sound card. what you need to do is determine what type of slots you have open, they are most likely standard PCI slots. You would need to go to a computer store like Best Buy and ask them to point out a new audio card to install in your system it should come with a disc which includes the drivers needed and installation instructions.

Hi Gary Partridge, I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
Check your device manager (google it if you don't know how) and what do you see under Sound & Audio devices (something like that)
Hi AJ. Thanks for contacting me. With regards to the Device Manager, I checked that immediately after the problem surfaced. Double clicking the Sounds and Audio Devices tab shows the following: Audio Codecs, Legacy Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Realtek High Definition Audio, Video Codecs. All of these are shown to be working fine. I've uninstalled and reinstalled my Realtek drivers and Realtek AC 97. These were original equipment. I've searched Google for as many queries as I could come up with for this problem and have visited tons of forums. Nothing has helped. I've tried to use Sytem Restore to go back to various restore points prior to the problem. However, I kept getting error messages saying that "my computer could not be restored to these dates and therefore no changes have been made to the computer". I also tried booting in Safe Mode and that didn't do any good. I tried using the Recovery CD that came with the PC to reload the drivers, etc., but that returned error messages that because I have Service Packs installed, the reloads can't be done. At this point I'm looking at inserting the System Restore CD to see what that will do. My other option is to take the PC to a local computer shop to see what they can do. That's most likely going to cost at least $50-100 that I'd prefer not to spend at this time of the year.
One other thing. When I click Start, Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, it shows NO AUDIO DEVICE, under the Volume tab and all the the applicable areas are Grayed out. When working properly, Conexant AMC Audio should be listed as my sound device.

I just noticed that even though I've uninstalled and reinstalled my Realtek audio drivers and the Conexant AC Audio Link, the Conexant AC Audio Link is not showing up in my currently installed prorgams, within the Windows Add and Remove Programs section of the control panel.
With Conexant not being shown as installed, that could be the reason for the "No Audio Device" error message. Doesn anyone know why the program is not listed as being installed? And how I can get it installed? Thanks.
