You can check for pins that are not making contact with the card. If everything looks fine you may have to replace the logic board. There are guide with images online that show you how to open a t-mobile g1.

I had the same problem with an HTC Aspire ( I think that's what it was called :} Anyway I formatted the micro SD card in fat 32 through my laptop using a micro sd to sd adapter and the sd card slot on my laptop. I then stuck the micro sd card back into the HTC and it worked. I heard formatting through another phone works too. Try it and let me know.

Wont read sd card 4 gb

You will have to upgrade your dash to windows 6 if you want it to read higher compacity micro sd cards. This method i free and is the only way their is no unlock code to make the the software compatible, you must upgrade it. once upgraded you can use up to a 8gb micro sd, i have not tried a higher card than that.

Not reading micro SD

The phone is designed to only hold a 2gb card. this is because a 4gb card uses high density memory the phone software can't read. There is a hack out there that I learned about at heliocity.net but it did not work for me.
