if the power light is flashing then the modem is on battery backup and internet is disabled. plug the power cord into the modem or find a working power outlet, you should be set after that.

SOURCE: i cant get my motorola sb5101 surf board cable

I have a similar problem. The common denominator seems to be the SB5101. I have a brand new Belkin Surf 300N, same issue. The modem will not give DHCP to the router. I can connect fine via ethernet to the modem directly.
This modem seems to be a dinosaur.

How do i install motorola docsis 3.0 cable modem.

After plugging in the cable from the cable company, plugging in the power cable and running an ethernet cable from the modem to the computer or router, you should be connected to the internet. You'll probably still need to contact the cable service provider since a new device will be attempting to connect to your service.

Here's a search that netted a few pdf manuals for similar devices:

Sb5120

1.screw the cable line into the (F-connector)port in the back of the modem just like a tv does.2.then use the RJ-45 lan cable supplied with the modem, plug it into the RJ-45 port in the back of the modem.3.then plug the other end of the cable into the computers RJ-45 port.4.then power on the modem by pluging it in,and letting it boot and detect the internet signal and all lights are on and in working order.then start surfing. The only time you will need the install cd is if you need to use the usb hook up on the modem.

I got a NETGEAR router and I have been trying to get my Motorola SURFboard to recognize it. I had the USB connection installed and the NETGEAR uses ethernet, so I tried to install the ethernet but my...

The Cable modem must be disconnected from the computer. You cannot use USB and Ethernet at the same time.

1. Turn off power to the Cable Modem and the Netgear Router. Do the same with the computer.
2. Connect an ethernet cable from the modem to the router's WAN (Internet) port.
3. Connect another ethernet cable from one of the remaining 4 LAN ports on the router to the computer's ethernet port.

4. Now power on the Cable Modem ONLY. Wait for the modem to sync up with your service provider
5. After about 2-5 minutes power up the router and wait about 1-2 minutes.
6. Now power on your PC.

Check and see if you have internet access. If not you may have to uninstall any cable modem software related to USB connection. if this is the case, then you may have to repeat steps 4-6.

Since most cable internet providers do not use proprietary connection settings, your internet connection should be up and running without changing any settings in the router or modem.

If this does not resolve your issues, we can continue to work with you.

I have a motorola SB5120 modem but no disc for it.How can I make it work?

With this type of modem no type of software will be required to establish a connection to your computer or router. However the modem will still need to be registered with your internet service provider. If you do not have the software to complete the registration process you will need to contact your ISP. The good news is that the registration of the modem should not take more than a few minutes and can be performed over the phone. After the registration has been completed connect the modem to your computer via a Ethernet cable. You may need to perform a hard reset of the modem at this time. To do this turn off your computer and unplug the power cable from your modem. Wait 2 minutes and reconnect the modems power cable. Give the modem another 2 to 5 minutes to reestablish the connection to your ISP. Power back on the computer and you should have internet access.

I hope the information above has helped in some way.

Internet connection Disc check

You should not need to run any disk to connect to the modem. Simply connect the ethernet cable to the modem and then to the all-in-one.

Once this is done you should see one of the network connections showing connected.

Also, you most likely checked disk space and not RAM.

Error in Connecting

without the modem plugged into the troubled computer, go to start -> run.

Type cmd and hit enter. A black window screen will come up. Type ipconfig and hit enter. Without the modem plugged in, your ip address should read 0.0.0.0. If not, you have a manual ip address and need to change it to auto.

To change ip address to auto, (in windows xp) go to start -> control panel, or start -> settings -> control panel.

Double click network connections. Look for your local area connection, right click and click on properties.

A window should popup. Scroll down the list to Internet Protocol and click properties again. Make sure IP address and DNS are both set to automatic.
