I purchased a used 60 Qt Hobart mixer, here are the specs:
SN: 2735195
Spec: 172A3
Model: M-6007
HP 1
Amps: 2.8
Volts: 440 Cycle 60, phase 3
I do have 440 3 phase power in my building. Anyway this unit was wired directly, the problem is they disconnected the power cord completly, all that is showing is the wire grommet.
My question is where does the wire connect to from the power source? I am having the elctrician coming in this Monday and would appreciate an answer as soon as possible.

Have you opened the box on the mixer,there should be a connection block there with three poles,generrally these are marked L1,L2,L3 those are the power connections,there may be a fourth for ground,if not there should be a screw attached directly to the frame for it,I imagine there may other connections to the block for the switches and if there are any low voltage circuits contained inside.I tried to find a wiring diagram but Hobart only allows their technicians to have these(trade secrets)I do triple phase electric work for a living so this is quite familiar to me.I'm not supposed to have contact with users outside of fixya,but if you can send me a clear picture of the mixer and the internal of the electrical box on the mixer,I can definitley solve this for you.Post back and I will give you my email if you want to send the pics.
If possible can you give me a photo of the terminal where the electrician would connect the 3 phase motor, if not you would do like this, arrange the three terminal so that we can temporarily name the three wires. lets say line 1, line 2. then line 3, the trick is here you will be needing an extra capacitor to do this any at least 450vac capacitor will do. i also hope you have an extra 3 phase breaker just for testing this unit. you will wire the two terminal lets say 1 & 2 directly to the breaker you gonna have to connect the capacitor to the 3rd terminal.of the mixer and try to intermittently connect it to any of the two terminal just to see the rotation of your mixer it will rotate clockwise or counter clockwise also have the clip ammeter tester ready.it should be running not the normal speed but it will rotate.if mixer run you have a working mixer. the finalizing step would be to connect it directly. still the same process but instead of capacitor you will now connect it direct. lets say 1 and 2 will be interchange if rotation of the motor is reversed. might be also better if you can take down and note each ampere reading on the lines, they must have the same current or the mixer or breaker will trip. dont forget to rate me when it works
The electrician will remove the access panel on the machine and wire it directly from the power source to the machine.
He will have the option of wiring 440 or 220 volt depending on your preference.
If you prefer the machine be mobile, a special receptacle can be installed and a pig tail installed on the mixer, however I would recommend the direct installation.
The installation will not be an issue of concern.

Once you remove the access panel you will see the lugs were the wiring is attached. The copper colored lugs are for the power supply or line voltage wires and the silver is for the ground or neutral wire.

I think I understand your question.
The cable from the power source will go though the grommet into the housing where all the connection terminals are.
There should be a way to remove the housing which has the grommet -- underneath you'll see the terminals.
There may be wires left from the old connection, but it sounds like the source cable was completely removed when the mixer it was deinstalled.

Thanks for the answer, you are correct, someone removed the entire cable, the grommet is all that is left, but my question is, three wires plus the ground, (440) hasve to be attached to the mixer, my question is, where do they go? Once the electrician comes in, all he is going to do is run the wire about 69', he already said he does not work on 440. Anyway if you could just simply diorect me where the wires afre connected to the mixer..

We went to the electrical box, and gthe volts coming out of gthe box are as follows: 125V 240V and 125V, we took this directly to the Hobart mixer and then this is where it goes a bit awry, we saw wires cut and placed them on the same poles but mixer does not work,. My question is where does the 240 V wirte go and the 2- 125V wires go?

Hi, thanks for your help so far, but I think your last comment, although I am not 100% certain how this could be correct, our main ciurcuit box coming in is HUGE, it measures 2'x5' high, and this was a machine ship prior to becoming a restauarant. Anyway assuming you are correct and we do not have a 440 circuit coming into the building then how is the mixer going to work? The mixer is calling for a three phase, 440? or maybe I do not understand this part.
As I mentioned we attached the three wires from this huge breaker box, three leads plus ground, yes we see the three leads and grounding screw and we attach accordingly, we tried each imaginable way, the 125V on the two outside legs and the 240V on the middle leg, vice versa and vice versa three times, the machine does not come on. We checked the switch and it is in working order and then we bypassed the transformer and went directly to the motor and the mixer worked perfectly, perhaps the transformer or whatever you call it is bad, anyway we are thinking of simply bypassing the unit and going direct and placing a timer switch as a break, simple but maybe effective.
