I have a Hotpoint Ultima WF860 Front Load Washer which makes a loud banging noise when it is spinning. Have you any ideas what could be wrong please?
You've been overloading the machine and using the wrong liquid laundry soap, Huh?! You're supposed to ALWAYS use the HE liquid laundry soap per manufacturer's instruction manual. Oh well, it keeps us tech's in business. So here is the problem. The washer basket has a shaft with a spoked hub called the spider & shaft. The shaft is made of steel, but the spider spoke that connects the basket to the shaft BY DESIGN is made of aluminum which corrodes in certain types of oxidizers such as laundry soap. The spider/ shaft is broken! Therefore, you shortened the life of your washer by not following directions and abusing the machine. It's a common ignorant act of incompetence. I mean relly how many people actually sit down and read their owner's manual? Or, it's oh! I forgot. Although, the truth is most probably you were being cheap on soap and overloading to save time, soap, water and electricity.
Having said all that... your washer if finished. The cost of repairs aren't worth the effort. It's better if you just call a used appliance recycler person such as myself and have them pick it up for a small fee. Go out and buy a new washer/ dryer set with a 1 year warranty and buy an additional 2 years warranty to protect yourself from expensive repairs later. After 2 years usege... sell them on craigslist as used appliances and gobuy new machines again using the money from the previous machines to offset the cost of new ones. That's the best advice you'll get from someone who has done the numbers. New Front Load washers and dryer have a short life by corporate design and new and improved mission statements.
