Re: have a brand new maytag dishwasher. When the cycle is...
If you open the door after the cycle, does it clear the display? Mine is a different maytag model, and when it's done it shows the display as clean. The display will go blank when I open the door manually... let me know if that helps. KEN

There are some things you can try, however, if your Maytag dishwasher is not getting your dishes as clean as you would like. Maytag recommends several processes for fixing this issue with your dishwasher.
Do not run your Maytag dishwasher while hot water is being used in other parts of your home, such as washing clothes or showering. Hot water is needed for your Maytag dishwasher to properly clean dishes.
Run water in the sink in your kitchen until it gets very hot. Then, turn on your Maytag dishwasher. This will ensure that the water cleaning your dishes is the hottest possible temperature.
Clean your Maytag dishwasher to improve the cleaning results for dishes. Run your dishwasher on a short wash cycle and wait for it to fill up with water. Stop the cycle and add about 1/3 of a cup of rust remover to the dishwasher and finish the cycle. Run your Maytag dishwasher through one normal cycle with regular detergent to finish the cleaning process.
Check your detergent. Old detergent or those that have been exposed to moisture can be clumpy. This detergent will not clean your dishes as well when loaded into your Maytag dishwasher. Purchase fresh detergent.
Use extra detergent when washing dishes that have a lot of built-up grease or food particles. The extra amount of detergent is needed to get your dishes clean. Choose a long cleaning cycle to clean these dishes.
Fill your Maytag dishwasher properly. Dishes should not be stacked on top of each other or excessively crammed into your dishwasher. This will keep the dishwasher from adequately cleaning all areas of your dishes and from rinsing them thoroughly.
Try putting the unit into a test mode. This my clear your issues otherwise call for service.
One of two ways to do this.
In standby (no lights) Press the combination of buttons:
hi temp wash > sanitize > hi temp wash > sanitize > hi temp wash
All lights will come on and the washer will run a test cycle anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes.
If that button comb doesn't work use:
heated dry > sanitize > heated dry > sanitize > heated dry
Turn everything off first then turn off the power at the switch. Wait 10 minutes, then turn all power back on..the electronics should reset itself..also, verify it is draining properly... cheers
What you're describing as changing to another cycle may be the dishwasher trying to display diagnostic information. For example, if you ran a Normal cycle and it appears to switch to Light Wash, check to see if the "Clean" indicator is also lit. This would indicate a motor fault, which would explain why it appears to "freeze".
That is a comon problem with that model. It is not sensing a temperature change in the water.
Push i believe it is heated dry and sani rinse going back and fourth between the two to clear the code and see if you can get it to complete a cycle. If it doesnt call sears and schedule service there is a service flash repair that should not cost you anything to repair the unit.
Push the NORMAL WASH then HEATED DRY buttons in that sequence two to three times. The unit will enter diagnostics mode, but can be stopped by pressing the CANCEL button. This will clear any existing faults and should return the dishwasher to normal operation.
Check to see how it's loaded. If something is obstructing either of the spray arms it will not start. I had this same problem and checked to see if there was something impeding the arms - I found there was. Reloaded the unit and it's running like a champ now!
although the light may be a true indication of a pending problem, try this test:
Find the circuit breaker and switch it off to remove power to washer for 30 minutes. Then power back up. Any changes? If light still on, then threat of trouble is real and must be fixed. Not sure what to CLEAN, though. Search for manual online...I'm sure Kenmore put that light on for a real purpose.
try pushing heat dry then normal back to back three times. then start. this should clear it up but only temporarily. you have a problem in your heat element or your control board.
