I have taken off the platter, and when the arm is lifted ,turning on the motor , the capstan pulley turns but a small, constant rattle comes from, I assume, the motor shaft or bearing. What is the solution?
If the bearing is worn to the point of a rattle and a small amount of silicone oil won't stop it, then it should be replaced or the motor replaced. These bearings are normally lifetime impregnated with lubricants and can sometimes dry out with use and somewhat seize up causing what may sound like a rattle. If the motor shaft has worn down enough at the bearing point, then a rebuild or replacement is in order.

Tonearm lift is probably a deteriorated belt. Google it, it's pretty common. The platter spinning might be due to a bad control board. You'll probably have to go to a repair shop to diagnose it.

PULLon it harder!!!! Its a *****! It will come up and off! Also do it evenly when you pull...there is a magnet under the platter. Dont break it! PULL evenly!

You will have to lift off the cloth on the platter section to expose two rather large holes in the plattr. Insert your thumb and forefinger, and pull up.

DOES THE PLATTER TURN FREELY, THE MOTOR PULLEY SHOULD TURN EASILY BY HAND BUT DOESNT SPIN FREELY OTHER WISE ITS MOST LIKELY THE MOTOR

Your turntable is probably belt driven so most likely motor is turning okay but belt is slipping.
They are easy to change, first just lift rubber mat on platter and you should be able to see the belt through a access hole in the platter.
