Tehnics sl-bd22 noisy motor what to do?

I have taken off the platter, and when the arm is lifted ,turning on the motor , the capstan pulley turns but a small, constant rattle comes from, I assume, the motor shaft or bearing. What is the solution?

If the bearing is worn to the point of a rattle and a small amount of silicone oil won't stop it, then it should be replaced or the motor replaced. These bearings are normally lifetime impregnated with lubricants and can sometimes dry out with use and somewhat seize up causing what may sound like a rattle. If the motor shaft has worn down enough at the bearing point, then a rebuild or replacement is in order.

Tonearm lift is probably a deteriorated belt. Google it, it's pretty common. The platter spinning might be due to a bad control board. You'll probably have to go to a repair shop to diagnose it.

You will have to lift off the cloth on the platter section to expose two rather large holes in the plattr. Insert your thumb and forefinger, and pull up.

Your turntable is probably belt driven so most likely motor is turning okay but belt is slipping.
They are easy to change, first just lift rubber mat on platter and you should be able to see the belt through a access hole in the platter.

How do you put on a drive belt?

Hi Janie, Thanks for your question. To replace a drive belt.
1, Remove the rubber platter mat to expose the platter.
2. Put your thumb and forefinger through the two round holes and lift the platter off. You may need to give the centre spindle a light tap (whilst applying upward pressure) with a screwdriver handle or some similar tool that will not leave any marks or damage.
3. Remove the old belt and wipe the platter pulley and motor pulley with an alcohol swab to remove any old belt residue.
4. Place the new belt around the platter pulley making sure t is sitting flat without any twists.
5. Flip platter over the right way up. There are1or 2 larger rectangle shaped cut outs in the platter.
6. Through the cut out pinch up the belt and slip a finger or belt hook between the platter pulley and the belt gripping the belt ready to fit over the motor pulley.
7. Align the centre hole of the platter with the spindle and place platter back into position keeping a grip on the belt.
8. Slip belt over motor pulley and give the platter a light clockwise rotation to ensre the belt is riding correctly.
9. Replace the rubber mat and then run the turntable to ensure correct operation.
Job done.

Note the new belt should sit on the platter pulley and not fall off when the platter is flipped over the correct way up.

When changing speeds between 33 and 45 always be sure that the platter is turning to ensure proper placement and rpm.

All the best, John. [email protected].

The platter on my 15 year old SL-BD22 turntable does not move when I move the tonearm into postion to play a record. Do I need a new motor? If so, where can I find the original equipment, what will it...

Not certain you will need a new motor - yet- !
First since the arm movement turns on the turntable some kind of switch must come into play. These break or move out of poistion, so check that first. The access I suspect will be through the base of the turntable.
As most of these types of turntables use a 12 volt motor, you can attach a 9 volt battery to it's terminals and that should make it spin. If it's dead sluggish or doesnn't spin fast or at all, it's dead. If it does spin then there's something up with the power supply section to it.

Terry, Remove the rubber mat from top of platter. This will expose two slots in the aluminum platter. Lift aluminum platter straight up and off. On the underneath side of platter is a surface that the belt will fit on, place the belt there(approximately half the diameter of the platter) With the belt mounted on platter, reinstall platter to turntable. Slowly rotate platter until you can see the drive motor pulley, stop. Carefully reach down and pull belt over drive motor pulley (make sure not to twist belt) Rotate platter to ensure smooth operation and belt tracking. VOLA! Reinstall rubber mat and vynil on!!

Turntable wont spin

If everything seems ok with the power , there is usally a small microswitch that sends power to the motor when the tone arm is moved to the start of the record.
The switch might be bad or the lever that actuates it (connected to the tone arm) might be sticking. You may have to take the bottom cover off or remove the platter to see it.
Also make sure the belt is looped over the motor shaft. If the motor runs but the belt still doesnt turn, belt might be bad.

How to replace drive belt for model.# SL-BD22 ?

Nope, very simple...

1) Remove the platter - just lift up
2) Underneath the platter, you'll see a small lip section
3) Wrap the belt around this lip
4) Put platter back on turntable
5) Rotate platter until you see the motor shaft through the holes on the platter - a brass round looking piece
6) Pinch the belt around the motor shaft.
7) That's it.

The tone arm will not drop on our Technics sl-dd33 turntable.

Have you left the tone arm lift in the up position?
If not: At the end of a record the mechanism lifts the tone arm, returns it to the rest, lowers it and switches off the motor.
It the motor has stopped too early, the tone arm will remain raised.
You can try gently rotating the platter clockwise by hand. This may allow the return cycle to finish.
