To use the tachymeter on the PL-12777JSBS watch, follow these steps:

  1. Start the chronograph by pressing the top button on the right side of the watch.
  2. The second hand will begin to move. Use the tachymeter scale on the outer edge of the watch face to measure the speed of an object over a measured distance.
  3. After measuring the distance traveled by the object, stop the chronograph by pressing the top button again.
  4. Read the tachymeter scale at the point where the second hand has stopped to determine the speed of the object in units per hour.
To reset the second hand on the watch, follow these steps:
  1. Pull the crown out to the second position.
  2. Use the top and bottom buttons on the right side of the watch to adjust the second hand to the 12 o'clock position.
  3. Push the crown back in to the original position.
If these instructions do not solve your issue, you may need to contact the manufacturer or a professional watch repair service for further assistance.

My Timex Chicago watch just arrived, it works perfectly, but the chronograph second hand is not pointing at the 12th o'clock mark. Is there a way to fix that?

normally the watch chrono hands can be reset .
dependant on movement fitted.
*pull crown out to first position
* push and hold top right pusher.
* the second should start top sweep one complete revolution and then stop.
*when it stops use the lower right pusher to adjust.
*when at the 12 push the crown but in fully.

TACHYMETER/TACHOMETER - how to use it.

Many of watch brands has outer bezel ring calibrated as TACHYMETER/ TACHOMETER. In simple words this is SPEEDOMETER on your wrist, like in your car. The only difference is: it does not work automatic, but you have to have some maths basics in your brain to make work it.
The main thing is: As second is taken as measuring point (any wristwatch is moving sec by sec, min by min, hr by hr and so on), there is no actual possibility to measure speeds less than 60 km/h. This is because our time is divided to hours, minutes and seconds (1 hr=60 mins= 3600 secs), but ordinary watch on your wrist can't count smaller than a second, so, the starting point still is 60 for the majority.
The best watch tachymeters are producing/manufacturing BREITLING, as they have very long relationship with aviators all over the world. Braitling watches can count up to 1/10 of second.
OK, here is the link to learn basics of how to use tachymeter:

HOW USE TACHYMETER & WHAT TACHYME3TER MEANS

A Tachymeter helps you estimate the speed you are going.

It uses the basic formula that speed = Distance/time

Here is how to use it: (For the full article see the link below)

To use tachymeter, simply start the chronograph or stopwatch when the object measured passing the starting line. When the object reaches the next mile or kilometer marker, stop the chronograph or stopwatch. The point on the tachymeter scale that adjacent to the second hand of the watch indicating the speed (in miles per hour or kilometers per hour) of object traveling between the two points.

For example, we want to measure the average speed of a vehicle is moving. Start the chronometer or stopwatch function when the car passes the starting line, and stop the timer after the vehicle traveled exactly 1 mile or 1 kilometer. Then look at where the chronometer hand (the second hand of the watch) is pointing to, and get the reading or value of the corresponding number at the tachymeter bezel or dial. Let's say the stopwatch stop at 3 o'clock position, meaning 15 seconds had elapsed for the car to travel 1 mile or 1 kilometer. At 3 o'clock position, the tachymetre value shows that number of 240, which means the average speed of the vehicle was 240 mph or km/h.

Please clarify use of the 3 smaller dials and how the hands to each are set and reset

The small bottom dial is seconds counter and there is no option to set or reset it as it is part of the main gear train - it just counts the seconds. Top right dial is 1/10 seconds counter and runs only when the chronograph function is engaged. One full circle indicates 1 second. Top left dial is 30 minutes counter and runs only when the chronograph function is engaged. One full circle indicates 30 minutes, two circles = 1 hour. The big centre seconds hand is actually Chronograph hand and runs only when the chrono function is engaged. So, the chronograph hand and two top dials works all together when chrono function is engaged. To start chrono: push upper button once. To stop chrono: push upper button again (once). To return all hands to zero: push lower button once. There is another option: if you already stopped chrono by pushing upper button, but want to continue counting without returning hands to zero, push the upper button once more and the counting will start from the point where it stopped. You can repeat this as many as you wish - it will count on and on, till you will stop it and reset to zero. Fine tuning of chrono hands can be made by pulling the crown half way out and while leaving in this position pushing and holding one of the push buttons (which one - depends on movement caliber). Watch has an tachymeter function as well (big inner ring). Learn how to use it by browsing through my Tips and Tricks- it is explained there. Rate me, please.

Need to reset the tachymeter on my Guess Steel watch . The dial resets it's self to the "7" location instead of "12" on my watch. Is there a way to recalibrate the watch?

This is chronometer that's need reset. Tachymeter is usually located on bezel or inclined ring and is used for speed calculations of moving object over the given period of time. Ok, back to your chrono hand resetting. Pull out crown and then push the upper button and hold it. The chrono hand should start move and you should be able to adjust it. If this doesn't work, try the same with lower button. When adjusted - push the crown back in. In fact there are very many variations how to reset chrono hand, but exact advise can be given if the movement caliber of particular watch is known.

Hi there i have bought a second hand tag heuer carrera tachymeter,i dont have a user manual, but cant seem to get the chronograph functions to work ?

Great watch! Operation should be pretty straight forward. The top button starts the chrono and stops it. The bottom button resets it. To calibrate the sweep arm into the right position pull the crown out to the first or second set position and press the start button until the sweep arm is in the start position you desire. This is typically 12:00 or 0.
If your chrono is not working then have the battery checked. If the battery has been recently replaced then make sure the watch doesn't need to be cleared.
I recommend you take this to a watch maker/technician who will be familiar with the service requirements of this model including resealing and pressure testing the watch to be sure it is sealed to its marked water resistance specifications.

Thanks!
