Pioneer Plasma - Won't turn on from Standby mode!

I have a Pioneer 60" plasma TV that I bought around 2007. It's one of the PDP-6070HD models or something to that effect. Today I tried to turn it on only for it to go into 'standby' mode, with the standby button flashing twice in the span of one second, off for 2 seconds, then repeating. I just got a new receiver from DirecTV about a month ago. Had a repairman from DirecTV come over and he said it was the TV. I have unplugged it for 1/2 hour - did nothing to resolve the problem. I need to know what the problems is and if there is a way to fix it. THANKS!

SOURCE: pioneer pdp 435PE plasma panel fault

You have to count how many times the red light flashes, this will determine the fault code. Then we may have a better guess at how much it may cost. Modules typycally cost 200-400 dollars.

SOURCE: pioneer media receiver won t turn on

If the light on the media reciever doesn't come on then the power supply in that needs to be replaced by a service tech. If you disconnect the 2 cables from the media reciever and the panel and then try to turn on the panel it should light with red and green squares for a few seconds but will turn off as it needs the media reciever to be connected.

SOURCE: 2 year old Pioneer PDP-5070PU plasma TV with red

While not aware of particular problems with this TV (others may know it better) based on the description and my practice with plasmas I'd be inclined to believe that one of the two sustain boards is near end of life.

Could also be problems with the power board, usually caused by dried out capacitors, but could not find reports of that through Google, so my first idea holds.

If you have a screwdriver, muscules to move it around and patience to unscrew all the bolts that hold the back panel you can actually test my theory by disconnecting each sustain in turn and seeing if the TV powers with no problems.

The sustains are the two large boards - one of each side of the display - left and right. Each sustain has a pretty fat power cable connecting it to either the power board or the other sustain (through which it may be getting power).

If I have to guess I'd bet on the Y sustain, which is the larger of the two, usually staying on the left side.

But that's just a guess - could be the other as well.

And, of course, could be just about anything else.

This is just best guess based on experience.

Good luck!

My 60''pioneer plasma blinks 12 times after i turn it on

looks like 12 blue blinks is a communication with the Digital tuner error. pioneer had a software upgrade/fix for this in some cases, others might need a new digital tuner pcb. I would unplug all power, wait 5 min, plug in (wait1 min) and try it again. If it is software, it should hopefully work. Make sure you pull your cable card if you have one. If it still won't turn on, you probably need the digital tuner board = $200-500 repair. Pioneer is usually very helpful, I'm really surprised they didn't help at all.. They'll want model #, serial # and date of purchase.

Can't turn on from Stanby mode

I would assume the power board has a problem. A tech could possibly repair it without replacing the whole board.
