2001 Sony KP-53V90 53 in. Rear Projection Television has a problem related only to the picture, the top and bottom of the screen are bowed into the middle, the video feed label and volume scale are also...

This is probably the notorious "light engine" problem that all of these Sonys of this design run into sooner or later. It is usually more expensive to repair that what the TV is worth, sadly. A Sony authorized repair center can confirm this.

KP-61HS30 Sony TV turn pink and green text is bowed

Hi,

Check out CONVERGENCE GALLERY . If you see your symptoms you have a problem in your convergence amplifier circuits. Typical Sony Convergence repair requires disassembly for replacement of 2 ICs, sometimes a fuse or 2, then TV is like new.

It is much more complicated than changing batteries on your remote. Many consumers try unsuccessfully to do a convergence repair. I recommend finding someone competent to do it for a reasonable price. Typical repair shop charges may be from $400 to $650.

If you are in the Calgary area, call me. More reasonable rates.

Sony kp-53s35 bowed picture on top and bottom

Good day, scotty1980;
Scotty, welcome to 2008. Hold onto your wallet, the has a convergence problem. Which means that the TV's convergence IC's are more than likely bad. The average cost to repair is about $450.00. Unless you are electronically friendly, I would call an authorized service dealer for repair.
Good luck, big IRISH. PS; Hope this was helpful.

Bow in the green tube, what is a reasonable price for repair

Your problem as well as your freinds tv is nota cronic problem with only Sony TVs but with every rear tube projection set ever made. The convergence ICs mostly go bad and yes, sometimes, a cold solder connection on the main convergence board can cause these problems. The IC's should be replaced as a pair as that takes care of problems your going to have down the road with the other colors going funky. A normal repair , depending on the area your in should run about 250.00 up to, but no more then 400 bucks. Good Luck
