How to update Amap EKP IV. I downloaded a zipped file to the computer. In the zipped file are two files that match files on the compac card. If I move the zipped file to the compact card will the GPS do...

In order to update your EKP you need a CF reader, you cannot update your CF without it.
First of all download and unzip the update files from our support section.
Enable the show of hidden files. Create on your Desktop the folder 'Old CF'
and copy in it all the files from the CF (is the backup folder if something goes wrong).
Omit to copy the 'CHARTS' folder. Create on your Desktop the folder 'New CF'
and copy in it the same files you copied in 'Old CF'. Replace the files format swx
in 'New CF' with the ones you downloaded from internet. Ovewrite the files in the cF
with the ones in 'New CF' (do not touch the CHART folder). Turn on the EKP and verify
if the procedure was correctly executed. If not, reinstall in the CF the files from
'Old CF' and repeat the procedure.
NOTE! : this procedure can delete all user marks from the RAM. Save them first in the CF
    with File Manager.
NOTE! For the update of 21/oct/10 you will need to update the Jeppesen cycle to !

I get a memory card error even though it has a card installed

    Issue: Memory card Error
Solution: Try a different memory card and/or Reformat memory card PowerShot A70

Formatting a CF Card You should always format a new CF card or one from which you wish to erase all images and other data.
caution_a70.gifPlease note that formatting a CF card erases all data, including protected images and other file types. Please check the contents of the CF card before formatting it.
    1. Turn the power on.

    2. Press the <MENU> button and select [ tools_icon.gif(Set up)] using direction_arrow_lt.gifor direction_arrow_rt.gif.

      format_menu_1.gif

    3. Select format_icon_a70.gif(Format) using direction_arrow_up.gifor direction_arrow_down.gifand press the <SET> button.

      format_menu_2.gif

    4. Select [OK] using direction_arrow_lt.gifor direction_arrow_rt.gifand press the <SET> button.

      format_menu_3.gif

      • To cancel formatting instead, select [Cancel] and press the <SET> button.
      • The capacity of the CF card displayed after formatting will be less than the rated capacity of the CF card. This is not a malfunction of the CF card or camera.

    5. Press the <MENU> button.
    note_icon_a70.gif
    • If the camera does not work properly, the inserted CF card may be malfunctioning. Reformatting the CF card may solve the problem.
    • When a non-Canon brand CF card is malfunctioning, reformatting it may solve the problem.
    • CF cards formatted in another camera, computer or peripheral device may not operate correctly. When that happens, reformat the CF card with this camera.

    Error 30

The "E30" error code is displayed when reading/writing data on a CF card has failed. Especially, the error code "E30" may appears when you tried to remove a CF card while the camera was processing data. Solution To clear the "E30" error, try performing the following procedure. 1. Try using another CF card. If you have another CF card, try loading it in the camera. If the error code is not displayed when the other CF card is loaded, there may be something wrong with the first one rather than with the camera. 2. Use your computer's ScanDisk utility to check the CF card for errors. Use ScanDisk to check the CF card for card error or card failure. Refer to the instruction manual for your operating system or Windows Help for further instructions. (If you are using a Macintosh, use the "Disk First Aid" program to check for card error or card failure. Refer to the instruction manual for your Macintosh OS for further information.) Be sure to back up the data on the CF card on the computer before you check the CF card. If a card error or card failure occurs when you use your computer's ScanDisk, there is something wrong with the CF card. Follow ScanDisk's on-screen instructions to solve the problem. 3. Format the CF card with your camera Try to format the CF card with your camera. Please refer to the "Camera User Guide" for your camera for instructions on formatting CF cards. Memory card error - E50

Error Code "E50" (CF card formatting error) When a camera error occurs, an error code like "Exx" will be displayed, where the x's represent numbers. The "E50" error code indicates formatting a CF card has failed. Solution To clear the "E50" error, try performing the following procedure. Be sure to back up the data on the CF card on the computer before you check the CF card. If a card error or card failure occurs when you use your computer's ScanDisk, there is something wrong with the CF card. Follow ScanDisk's on-screen instructions to solve the problem. If the same error occurs when you are using the CF card supplied with the camera, please contact the retailer where you purchased the camera or the nearest Canon service center. If the error code is displayed right after you took a picture, the image may not have been recorded. Switch the camera to playback mode to check if it was recorded. Precautions for handling a CF card: - Do not remove a CF card or disconnect the camera's power source while the camera is recording, loading, or erasing data on a CF card. - CF cards are high-precision electronic devices. Do not bend, force, or subject them to shocks or vibration. - Do not attempt to disassemble or alter a CF card. - Place the CF card in the supplied case for storage. - Moving a CF card rapidly between temperature extremes may cause condensation in the card, leading to potential malfunctions. To avoid condensation, place the CF card in a sealed plastic bag before moving it into a different temperature area and allow it to adjust slowly to the new temperature. If condensation forms on the CF card, put it aside until the water droplets have evaporated completely. - Do not use or store CF cards in the locations subject to dust or sand, high humidity, or high temperatures.
