IF explorer loading slow on start up, then problem can be due to background running files. So i would suggest you to download n install the PC Fresher and use its Manage Startup feature. Thanks

Slow internet speed with hp pavilion, windows 8, internet explorer 10

My suggestion to remove both McAfee and Norton, they slow down the PC to a crawl. Also they bring all sorts of toolbars and unwantedness.

The free and light use antivirus is the one built into Windows, or if you are rocking Windows 7, Microsoft security essentials. Another one would be malwarebytes as a second layer of defense.

My computer is too slow - how do I make it faster?

Slow Start Up
There can be a variety of reasons to Windows loading slow during start up. Go to Run, type msconfig and hit enter. Under the 'Start Up' tab, uncheck the unwanted programs and press OK. Things should be a bit fine the next time Windows boots.
Another program worth mentioning here is StartUp Delayer which will help in setting after how much time programs should be loaded after Windows boots. For instance, you could set your instant messenger program to load 50 seconds after Windows starts up.
Slow Loading Start Menu
If the Start Menu items are loading slowly, you can open the Registry Editor by typing in the Run menu 'regedit.exe' and pressing Enter. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop. Look for MenuShowDelay, and double click to edit the value. The lower the number specified, the faster the Start Menu will load.
Slow Right Click Context Menu
Probably the Windows Right Click menu on your computer is loading slow because too many programs added unwanted entries there. Just download this program called Mmm, install it and then modify your context menu to remove unwanted items to speed it up.
win-fixes-send-to.jpg Slow Send To Menu
If the Send To menu loads slowly, you can type 'sendto' in the Run Dialog, and remove unwanted items in the Explorer Window that appears. This should add some speed to it.

Slow Defragmentation
The Windows Defragmenter can't get any slower. You need to have an alternative to the Windows Defragmenter, and Defraggler is just one of the best ones available in the market. It's free, and works like a charm and can speed up defragmentation manifold. For some alternatives, see Five Free Programs to Defragment your PC.

I have lost the use of internet explorer - I get a run time error. I have tried to download from their website but my system says there is a newer version already loaded so it won't load the one I down...

Steps for Windows 7To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:
  1. Close all programs.
  2. Click Start vistastartbutton.jpg, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program.
  4. In the tasks pane, click Turn Windows features on or off.
  5. In the list of windows features, clear the check box next to Internet Explorer 8.
  6. You receive a warning message in a pop-up window. Click Yes.
Internet Explorer 8 will now be uninstalled. The system will restart after the installation.

if that fails then there is a manual way to do this using the CMD prompt...
  1. Carefully select and then copy the following command: FORFILES /P %WINDIR%servicingPackages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-8*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"
  2. Click Start, and then type Cmd.exe in the Start Search box.
  3. In the list of programs, right-click Cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator.

Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
  4. Right-click inside the Administrator: Command Prompt window, and then click Paste to paste the command that you copied in step 1.
  5. Press ENTER to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
  6. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.
You cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 8 if it is set as not removable. This occurs if you install Internet Explorer 8 before you install Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP. If this scenario applies to you, then you must uninstall SP3 before you can uninstall Internet Explorer 8. My laptop keeps freezing up when i am on line?

This could be a sign of many things, but possibly a virus.

To make sure you havent contracted a virus. Please download a free program called malwarebytes.

here is a link to do so

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button

once downloaded, install it, and then run the full scan. If it finds anything remove it..

Then you may need to reset internet explorer afterwards.

# Exit all programs, including Internet Explorer
# If you use Windows XP, click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:
inetcpl.cpl
# Click the Advanced tab.
# Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset. Then click Reset again.
# When Internet Explorer finishes resetting the settings, click Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box.
# Start Internet Explorer again.
