I am having problems recording from the HDD to a DVD to play on other DVD players or computer. The dubbing goes through the motions and will play on the LG RH177 where I recoreded it but the disk appears blank to other machines. I am using a Sony DVD-R disk.

Choose Dub on remote. Choose HDD to DVD. When you are looking at your HDD Titles, move the cursor (the highlighted box, using the left/right buttons on your remote) to the title you want to Dub. Hit the OK button on your remote. Then hit the Dubbing button on your remote. If you are ready to record, move cursor down to Start Dubbing. Choose speed, then hit OK button.
well one solution may be the speed you are recording at. L.P. recording on a dvd often creates this problem. but usually it is when you copy dvd to dvd, not mini dvd to dvd Never record more than 2 hrs on a disk there are programs for a work around that reprocess the dvd vob file with adjustments for the sync. could also be a hardware problem is your mini dv long play source as well?
Have you tried using a different brand disc. When I first purchased my DVM-600 it would not record on Memorex discs. I purchased TDK -R discs and all is fine. In the old-school analog world, all specific format tapes were computable to all machines. In other words, a VHS tape recorded in your VHS recorder will play back in my machine and every other VHS machine. Because the DVD format has so many formats and standards, compatability issues are quite common.
When you insert the dvd are you in dvd mode or hdd mode I think you have to be in hdd mode then go to settings insert dvd that you want to dub wait then it should become not greyed out, I had a similar problem when i tried to burn a dvd from hdd I had to be in hdd mode to dub I hope this helps let me know
I had the same problem but changed the recording mode to SP. I used a DVD-RW to high speed dub a two hour film and a documentary about a holiday island.
If you read the instructions, it's under "Dubbing" - Page 51. The one thing the printed manual fails to tell you is that you need to "finalise" the disc if you want to play it on any other player apart from another RH7823W - DOH! See page 23.
