actually e2 is the button hole lever being down. e6 means that the thread is tangled and to prevent the motor from overheating the machine automatically stops. All you have to do is re-thread the machine and take the bobbin out, untangle it and put it back in and sew. This usually works. If it keeps happening, there could be a few things wrong.

1. if you are using thick fabric your tension should be lower. normal tension is 5.

2. your machine is out of alignment. take it in to a service center, they can fix it in 5 minutes. to find a service center near you go to http://www.brother-usa.com/service/

3. your needle is old or bent and should be replaced.

4. Your needle is too thick, standard is 80. The thicker the fabric, the thicker the needle.

SOURCE: machine is telling me E6 error but there is no thread tangled

I am in the middle of fixing this same error. I phoned Brother service in Manchester and they are spot on. Give them a try, they talk you through the problem and suggest things to do to narrow down the cause. Make sure you have the model and serial number as this saves time. In extreem cases you can send your machine to them by parcel post and they will look at it free of charge and then give you an estimate for any repairs needed. If you decide not to go ahead, you can elect to have the machine returned to you for the cost of the postage.
In my case I bought the machine second hand off of E-bay and was getting the dreaded tangle/needle message. I phoned the service department and I was told to thread the machine up and switch on. Then they give you several things to try. Essentially you need to get someone to press the start button while you immediately turn the handwheel forward gently and smoothly.
If this stops the message coming up then you must suspect the motor or its fuse. In my case, it would seem the machine had been dropped as there was a hairline crack in the circuit board which stopped the power getting to the motor.

SOURCE: what does error E1 mean on a brother CS6000i

hello, the E1 code simply means the machine is working so hard, you can follow the information below to help you fix the problem,

The instructions for bobbin winding tell you to click the start button for the bobbin to wind. When you do that you get that E1 with a beeping. What they don't explain is that in order to press that "UP" arrow button to get the bobbin to wind..........you need to UNPLUG the foot control. So, in other words it to be used for sewing w/o a foot pedal. Now instead of doing as per instructions, assuming you've plugged everything in (foot pedal), after winding is finished just press the foot pedal and your off and running or sewing as the case may be. BTW, look it up in the TROUBLESHOOTING SECTION OF YOUR MANUAL.
please kindly rate the solution if it;s helpful,

take care.

I have an e6 problem on my brother cs6000i sewing machine, it was smoking too, and it starts on its own. When i step on the foot pedal it suddenly starts beeping then it shows e6 then stops. What do I...

Try turning unit on with foot control unplugged. If it starts on it's own with foot pedal disconnected then internal board failure (smoke).

Brother E6 error?
A.
The upper thread could be tangled. Remove the upper thread and any loose threads. Raise the pressure foot, raise the needle to its highest position and rethread the machine.
Remove the bobbin and bobbin case to clean any lint or loose threads. Install the bobbin case so that the projection on it aligns with the spring. Then install the bobbin into the bobbin case.
The needle could be bent. Replace the needle making sure the flat side is facing the back.
