Our upstairs rooms have 15 amp circuits, and every time we have the suction control turned up to max and try to start the vacuum, it trips the circuit breaker. However, when we run it on a 20 amp circuit it seems to run fine. We're trying to figure out if there's 1) a problem with the vacuum, or 2) a problem with the house wiring. Any insight or help is appreciated.
Honestly, I suggest calling a professional electrician. Finding out your house has faulty wiring could save your lives. I would be more concerned about that, than the vacuum. Good luck, and be safe.
Check specs on unit and amperage. If it is less than 15 then the upstairs breaker is kicking off prematurely - Not uncommon event. If unit is drawing more power than specs there is excessive friction in motor bearings. Also check out brushes for good contact since they wear.

There is actually an internal fuse in the vacuum. You may have blown this. The circuit board connected to the ON/OFF touch pad may be bad too but probably unlikely. There is also an overheat sensor that trips the vacuum off when it gets too hot. This could be bad preventing it from coming on too. All of these solutions, require you to open the vacuum to fix.
