You can purchase 50 watt, mono, 8ohm, "L" pads. One for each of the 4 speakers. Simply stated, this becomes a volume control for each of the remote speakers. Google "50w, 8ohm, L pad". Link:

Two 8 ohm speakers in parallel is 4 ohms.
if series 16 ohms.a high resistance will just produce less power.
too low a number can activate the speaker protect,or blow the amp.

Short answer from personal experience.
There is no way around this part. Get a separate power amp for the 901's if you want to use them in a multichannel way.
Connect the EQ between the pre-outs and the amp input. Run speaker assignment, levels, etc and have fun.
If you don't have sufficient between-speaker room for proper reflection off the front wall you CAN turn them around and you won
