The "handshake" between the television and the blu ray player has been lost. This happens a lot when connecting with hdmi. Sometimes a hot swap will work to remedy this. That is turning off and unplugging both your television and bluray player while removing the hdmi cable from both for 30 seconds to one minute. Reconnect the bluray player to the hdmi cable and then to the television. Plug them both back in and turn the television on first then the bluray player. Your television may need a factory reset going into the service menu or the board the hdmi ports are located on might need to be replaced if all of the hdmi ports are not responding. You can connect with component if possible in the meantime.
I got the same problem today. I thought it was a connection on HDMI cable problem. I tried many different options to solve it but nothing was working. After I read your post I realized that my 2 y old boy was playing with the remote before it happened. So I found on menu in DVD player option - default setting- and I pressed it - and bingo - it's working. I used cinch cables instead HDMI while I was fixing - just in case you cannot get the menu screen on tv - good luck
The problem is some intermediate connections do not allow the HDCP signal to reach the telivison. Electronic HDMI switches have this issue. I have one HDMI port on my Telivision and I have a Blu-ray player & HD satellite reciever. I had purchased a two in one electronic switch and found that the satellite reciever signal would make it to the tv and was working but the blu-ray player was not. I had to by a passive push button switch and it allows the HDCP signal thru. The funny thing is the electronic switch was supposed to be HDCP compliant and it still did not work.
If Audio Select (Page 44 and 98) is set to HDMI you will hear silence if no HDMI signal is present. I think AUTO is the best choice here.
