If it was me, if it gets hot, that's usually a sign that the juice if flowing through it wrong. Sounds like you've got something hooked up backwards. or grounded out to something else. Check everything again. Get help from a professional if that doesn't fix it.

Club car golf cart new batteries 6 volt wires getting hot cart sat a few years wiring corect

How hot? Burning up? Melting? I would double check wiring of the batteries then check condition of the cables and replace any that are suspect.

Need help putting new batteries in 1980 club car can't figure out how to connect wiring to new batteries

This should solve your problem.
Next time you want to take something apart, be sure to take a picture or 2, before you disconnect anything. That will help you put it back like it was.

On my 36V club cart the cable from the motor to the battery gets extremely hot

Sounds like either the cable connections at the battery/s need to be cleaned to bright metal or this is a sign the controller, and or drive motor is beginning to fail. Hot means something close to a "short" is drawing a very high current.
