Laptop keeps losing power at start up and shuts down repeatedly

I push the power on button and it starts to load Windows. After a couple of seconds the laptop looses power and it shuts down. Push the power button again and it starts to power up but loses power again, this time quicker.

If I wait awhile and then try to power up it lasts a little longer loading Windows and then loses power and shuts off. I try to power up again and it starts to power up and then shuts down after a couple of seconds again.

It responds the same way with or without power chord. I believe that the battery is being charged because the light will change from orange to green as if it is charged.

After waiting overnight I was able to power up the laptop and retreive some files before it shutdown after about 2 minutes from reaching the desktop screen. The battery indicator was full and the wrench icon showing that the battery was being charged. The laptop powered off after a couple minutes.

I tried to power up again and it would shut off before loading windows. Repeated attempts to restart and it would just keep powering off and on.

My Aspire one will not allow windows to start and my start button is frozen so I have no access to anything. This happend right after I downloaded updates.

Have you attempted to reboot the machine? By holding the start button for 20 seconds you can shut of the power.

If that fails, remove the power cord and remove the battery. Reassemble and attempt to reboot. Failing that, load your windows CD and attempt a repair.

I press the power off button and it doesn't power off

You should never power down by pressing the power button unless your system is deadlocked and won't respond to any other actions. Powering off in this fashion can cause you to lose data, corrupt files, and improperly shut down Windows.

Nonetheless, if you are in need of shutting down the laptop in this fashion you must hold the power button instead of only pressing it. You'll find this in the power settings of the device. Honestly, the power button may even be set to do nothing, which is possible.

To properly shut down your new Pavilion laptop, which should be running Windows 7, follow this process: Click Start > Shut Down

Start is now simply a circular Windows icon in the bottom left corner of the screen and shut down has an arrow pointing down next to it. Click the words shut down instead of the arrow which will bring up other power save options.

How to reset a laptop CY25?

Windows XP, right? Click on start, shutdown and then restart!

Is the laptop frozen? Hold down the power button for about 5-10 seconds until power shuts off. Just press the power on again to get it to start back up. Make sure you can NOT reset soft before cycling power on your laptop because you can lose/corrupt data during a cold boot.

Hope this helps,
Bill

Laptop wont switch on fully

Did you press F8 as you boot up to get boot up options and did try the Last Known good Configuration and Safe Mode?
If these didn't work I suggest you re-install Windows.

Laptop starts then shuts down

As soon as you power up keep pressing F8 to get into safe mode. You will see a black screen with various options, go to Safe mode with networking, and see if your laptop stays on. If it does you should be able to go to the manufacturer web site and download latest graphic drivers, as this may be the problem. Download, then uninstal current graphics driver from add/remove programmes. Re-boot your pc and when it finds your graphics again ensure that you point windows to install the down loaded driver and not a generic driver. If you were not able to get this far, then a possible processor or motherboard failure is the answer; taking to a qualified repairer is recommended.
