Streaky screen I bought my Acer laptop at the beginning of th semester. This morning when I left, my laptop worked fine. When I got home this evening after classes, it didn't work right. The screen appeared streaky. Across the top it read something like Windows Recovery Error, so I pressed and waited a moment. Like usual I typed in my password, even though I couldn't see the area. My wallpaper showed across the top .5" only and in this area only did my arrow show up. I turned the power of off/on and went through the same sequence. I had to go to the comp.commons on campus to even find the website. What should I do? I'm not even sure which Acer I have.

On the bottom of the laptop. You should find the serial number and model number.

It sounds like the LCD has some issues. I recently repaired a machine with a simular problem, but the screen was more "splashed" than streaked. By that i mean you could clearly see the screen was smashed.

Would you say your streaking is more like "Digital" streaking what we call "Artifacts" or its like a splash of water on it, where maybe its been smashed.

If its the other, try safe mode with VGA support. That should disable any other programs or settings causing the problem.

Oh! And when you first boot the machine, does the "ACER" logo look normal? How about the windows boot screens?

Acer factory backup does not start my computer

I have the exact same laptop as you. I've had this problem before. I bought the DVD's from Acer to reinstall everything and there are times when they don't work. I left it sit for a week and it stayed on the same screen. I would just keep trying, or order the DVD's from Acer. It will cost about $30 but might be your only chance.
I don't know if this is a flaw of this computer or not, but even with a different HDD in it it does the same.

Laptop battery won't charge - Acer Aspire 4520

Since is shows it as charging then your power cable should be working. So it looks like a battery issue but batteries just don't die unless a cell inside dies then they will stop working. Try taking the battery off and making sure that the connections are clean then put it back in. If that doesn't work give the battery a good full charge then bring the battery and laptop back to where you bought it and get them to test the battery to see if a cell died.

Streaky screen

Try to download and run "memory test" from microsoft website. Also read the instructions on how to use it.

Most of the time the Memory is the culprit for this kind of problem.

Hope this helps.
