To unhide file extensions to see what you have in XP open my computer (or windows explorer) Tools/Folder Options/View change 'Do not show hidden files and folders' to 'Show hidden files and folders' uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types' if you wish you can uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files'

to unhide file extensions in win7, vista go to my computer (or windows explorer) Organize/folder and search options/view change 'Do not show hidden files and folders' to 'Show hidden files and folders' uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types' if you wish you can uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files'

In win8 I'm not sure how to get to it unless you change to show classic view somehow

Please check that you do not have any hidden folders from Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization, Folder Options.
If "Show hidden files" option is selected, open the cmd and use the attrib command. You should write
attrib -h -r -s /s /d z:\*.* (where "z" is the letter of your drive).

To Enable showing of hidden folders and files. fist open my computer and then go to "Tools" then "Folder Options". Then click on the "View" tab, and under "Hidden Files and Folders", click "Show Hidden Files and Folders".

Dvd drive is full of files but only shows a empty file folder, how do you open the file

The folder might contain a lot of what are called "hidden files"

To view hidden files, press the "Alt" key in your explorer window and go to "View -> Folder Options"
Then navigate to the View tab and under advanced settings select "Show hidden files and folders"

Or:

Go to the Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization -> Folder options -> View -> Advanced settings -> Show hidden files and folders

That should fix it

My C drive shows 29 GB full but when I check my folders it only adds up to 7 GB! Can you help to find the rest?

open command prompt
type the code exactly as written
cd/ (press enter)
dir /a:h (press enter)

If it shows two files like hiberfil.sys and/or pagefil.sys do lemme know
There is nothing to worry it happens some times. I will give you the cure if the same.

They are hidden or system files, and you have to change settings in order to see them.

To see hidden files:
1.

Hello I cannot see or open the files

The file which you want to open or see must be hidden. To show all hidden files do the following: Type control.exe in the Run box this will open control panel. Now double click on Floder Option and click on view tab. Now under Hidden Files and Folders select Show hidden files and folders. Now click on apply and then ok. So steps will show all the hidden files and folders, now you must be able to see the file.
