It's not in the manual for the good reason that the AT&T 992 isn't an answering machine. If you want to record an outgoing voicemail greeting, you'll have to do it on the voicemail system, not on the phone. If you need instructions on how to do that, you'll have to tell us the make and model of the voicemail system or answering machine.

I have recorded an outgoing message. However, at the end of the new outgoing message an old obsolete outgoing message starts to play. How do I get rid of the old outgoing message?

Hi,
You will need to remove the old message. There SHOULD be prompts. IF NOT try going to a very quiet room and hit record but do not say or make noise and this will record silence over the old and new message. Then attempt to retry.
ALSO - look for a 'reset' button and remove all batteries if you have power outage back up batteries.
Unplug the phone - and try again.
Here are the instructions from the manual:
To Change Your Personal Greeting:
1. Press the Check Voicemail key or press the Feature button, then 981
2. Enter your password
3. Press the ADMIN softkey
4. Press the GREET softkey
5. Press the REC softkey
6. Press the PRIME softkey
7. Press the YES softkey
8. At the tone, record your new greeting, press the OK softkey to end your recording and then the OK softkey again to accept the new recording

Best of it

I am trying to record my personal greeting on my message machine with the DECT 6.0...can you please explain to me how I can record my greetings?

Which model phone do you have? For the CL82509 and related DECT 6.0, you need to set the outgoing message from the handset when the answering machine is on. (It can be turned on from the handset).

For the outgoing message: with the handset in Idle mode, press Menu/Select. Use the up (Dir) and down (CID) arrows to highlight Ans Sys Setup. Then press Menu/Select. Use the same arrow keys to select Announcement and press Menu/Select again. Press 7 to record a new announcement. At the tone, speak your message clearly then press 5 when you have ended the message. The message will play back.

This model's manual is available here: http://att.vtp-media.com/ecp/documents/product_Product/132/UserManual/5995/cl82509_manual_USA_i6.pdf . See page 15 to set the answering system outgoing message. (This is different than Voicemail. To set up Voicemail, you will need to see your telephone provider's documentation.)

Most AT&T phone manuals are available here: http://telephones.att.com/att/index.cfm/product-support/manuals/ .

I hope this helps.

I cannot record my own outgoing message

I assume you're referring to when people call you, and you're not there?
This is actually a voicemail issue, not a cellphone issue.
If that's so, when you're in side your voicemail, you'll want to get to the administrative options. There, you'll have options to choose a personal greeting, a standard greeting or a greeting with just your name/number. You'll want to choose personal greeting. This is the option to record your own greeting.
If this is not what you're referring to, you'll need to post a more clear question, so that we can answer it for you.
