SOURCE: handset does not work

Your handset is no longer communicating with your base. Depending on your model, the solutions can be a couple of different options. If I could view pdf files on this computer I would look it up for you. But here is the link to the manual on Unidens website- http://www.uniden.com/pdf/TRU8865-2om.pdf

Nonetheless, give this a try. Power down your base, and pull the battery out of your handset. Plug the battery back in the handset and set the bad handset in the base cradle, and then power up the base. Wait about 30 seconds, then give the phone a try. If it still does not work, then you need to try to "re-register" the bad handset back to the base. Look in the manual under "registration" procedures. Hope my help fixes it for you. Good Luck, CG

SOURCE: The VM indicator displays on my handset but there are no messages

I saw that someone else posted this solution and it worked for me. Unplug the power on the base unit and then reconnect the power while holding the "find hs" button. I just did this and it fixed my blinking light problem.

SOURCE: When I get ready to dial, phone beeps 3 times

You must have an answering service from your phone company, and probably don't know about it. Try dialing your own # and wait for the prompts.

SOURCE: Has new battery, but no dial-tone,

Replacing the battery reset the phone to the factory defaults, which means you'll have to restore the connection to the base in Menu-Setup

I have 2 problems. 1. The orange message light will not stop flashing no matter what I do. 2. Some how the system was switched from touch tone to dial tone. I can't seem to that switched either.

Resetting the voice message waiting indicator
When you receive a new voice mail message, the new message LED on the top of the handset flashes. In the event your message waiting light gets out of sync with your phone company's
voice messaging system, you can manually reset it back to the "No messages waiting" state.
1. Press and hold FiND on the base for five seconds.
Note: The handsets connected to the base will start to beep, however, keep pressing for five seconds.
2. A beep sounds and the message alert tone is reset.
Changing the dial mode
Your phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most base networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing. If your phone company uses pulse dialing, you will need to change your phone's dial mode. If you don't get a dial tone or can't connect to the telephone network, please follow the steps below to modify your phone's settings:
1. Press MENU/SELECT.
2. Select the Global Setup menu, and then the Dial Mode submenu.
3. Scroll to highlight Pulse.
4. Press MENU/SELECT. You will hear a confirmation tone.
If you ever need to change the dial mode back to tone dialing, follow the same procedure, but select Tone in step 3.

Finally for future ease of use, here is a link to the user manual were I copied the above information from:

MESSAGE LIGHT CONTINUES TO BLINK ON ALL HAND SETS (THERE ARE NO PENDING MSGS) WHEN I TRY TO DIAL OUT, (INSTEAD OD A STEADY DIAL TONE) I GET A RAPID BEEPING DIAL TONE) AFTER 7 TIMES, THEN IT BECOMES...

You have unheard messages on the voicemail system provided by your telephone company. This system records messages when someone calls while you're already on the phone. Please contact your telephone company for instructions on accessing their voicemail system.

Modem tells me there is no dial tone

Connect the modem to a telephone-jack.
Make sure that the telephone-wire has *FOUR* strands, not just *TWO* strands.

Or, unplug the FAX, and plug a telephone into that telephone-jack, and listen for a dial-tone.

Do you have electronic voice-mail from your telephone company?
If so, does it "beep" a few times when you pickup the handset?
Such "beeps" can confuse any modem that expects *instantly*
to "hear" a dial-tone.

NO DIAL TONE!!

Hi! I can't say for sure this is your problem, but if you lose power for a time, the handset that is not in the answerer base will quit working. You then have to take that handset and put it in the base cradle (where the working phone sits) and leave it there for at least 20 seconds. After the base recognizes it again, it should work. If this doesn't cure the problem, then probably the phone is damaged. Hope this works for you! Hal

When preparing making a call, I get a series of short dial tones.

Have you tried erasing all of your recorded messages? Usually the short dial tone beeps mean you have a pending message.

Handset has No link to base

I was having the same problem with the same model phone, and fixed the problem by rebooting the phone – unplugging the AC and phone cord from the base station and plugging both back it, then removing and replacing the handset to regenerate the security code.

Handset ?No Link To Base? error and no dial tone

2/29 Have you registered or re-registered the handset?
"No link" can mean handset is not accepting radio wave of base unit. At Mfgr website pull-down operator's manual and look for registration instructions. Some sequence of buttons will create a radio signal from base (have handset off base) then another sequence of buttons on handset will accept radio signal. If handset has "menu" button, try "menu", then "00" (zero zero) then select an accept or "OK" button. Good luck.

Handset doesn't turn on; press a button, beeps and turns off

from a different brand portable phone - - it worked for me! "If you experience difficulty with placing/receiving calls, a lost security code may be the problem. The handset cannot communicate with the base. Unplug AC adapter. Disconnect handset battery for 10 seconds. Reseat the battery and then place in base. Replug AC adapter."
